Edge 2023: Biography, Net Worth, Family, Income

Adam Joseph Copeland better known as Edge was born October 30th, 1973 in Orangeville, Ontario, Canada. He is a professional wrestler and actor currently signed to WWE.

Copeland began his wrestling journey when he was 17 years old. He was trained by Ron Hutchison and Sweet Daddy Siki before making his debut in 1992 on the Canadian independent circuit as Sexton Hardcastle. It was during this time he met Christian Cage and Rhino.

He began teaming with Cage under a variety of names such as Hard Impact, The Canadian Rockers, and The Suicide Blondes. After impressing Bret Hart’s business manager, Carl De Marco he was introduced to the legend and trained at the Hart Family Dungeon alongside Cage, Test, Mark Henry, and Ken Shamrock.

He made his WWE debut in 1996 wrestling Bob Holly at a house show before he was signed to a developmental contract the following year. After competing in several dark matches, he was repackaged as Edge and debuted in 1998 on Monday Night Raw. His big break came when he joined the Gangrel and Christain to become the Brood, the Lost Boys-inspired vampire-influenced faction. The trio became part of The Undertaker’s Ministry of Darkness but was thrown out and Edge teamed with Christian against the Acolytes.

The duo began feuding with the Hardy Boyz in the Terri Invitational Tournament – a best-of-five series tournament in which they fought for the managerial services of Terri Runnels and $100,000. The tournament culminated in the first of their many career-defining Ladder Matches at No Mercy 1999, which the Hardy Boyz won.

The insane ladder matches continued when the two teams as well as the Dudley Boyz clashed in a Triangle Ladder match at WrestleMania 2000 and saw Edge and Christian win the WWF Tag Team Championships for the first time in their career. Following the win the trio of teams continued to feud over the titles. They fought several times before meeting in the first-ever TLC match at SummerSlam then again at WrestleMania X-Seven and finally on SmackDown in a Fatal 4-Way Tag Team TLC Match that also involved Benoit and Jericho.

Edge entered and won the 2001 King of the Ring tournament beginning his hugely successful run as a singles competitor. He went on to capture the Intercontinental Championship from Lance Storm at SummerSlam during the Invasion angle. Upon winning the title he entered feuds with his former partner Christain, Test, Kurt Angle, and William Regal.

Later that year he was drafted to SmackDown where he became one of the famous SmackDown Six. There his feuds with Angle, Benoit, Rey Mysterio, and Eddie and Chavo Guerrero established the blue brand as an exciting in-ring-based product and elevated him to top-tier status. It was during this time Edge suffered the first of his career-threatening neck injuries. In 2003, he was forced to undergo surgery and was sidelined for an entire year.

Upon his return, he won the World Tag Team Championship for the ninth time before defeating Randy Orton, to become a five-time Intercontinental Champion. The next year he entered the main event scene when he won the first-ever Money in the Bank ladder match at WrestleMania 21. During this time his real-life affair with Lita become public knowledge and the two began appearing on screen together.

The affair resulted in a deeply-personal feud with Matt Hardy, which Edge won. Following the feud, he began referring to himself as the Rater-R Superstar. At the New Year’s Revolution Edge cashed in his briefcase on John Cena to win the WWE Championship for the first time in his career.

He lost the title back to Cena at the Royal Rumble and then lost a rematch, which he blamed special guest referee Mick Foley for. This started a feud between the two and at WrestleMania 22 he defeated Foley in an incredibly violent hardcore match that involved barbed wire, thumbtacks, and flaming tables. At ECW One Night Stand on after teaming with Foley and Lita to defeat Tommy Dreamer, Terry Funk, and Beulah McGillicutty in an Extreme Rules tag team match, Edge reignited his feud with Cena when he interfered in his WWE Championship match against Rob Van Dam, by spearing Cena through a table thus helping Van Dam win the title.

The move inserted him back into the title scene and he captured it for the second time in a Triple Threat match against Cena and RVD. His feud with Cena culminated in a TLC match at Unforgiven when Cena performed the FU on Edge off the and through two stacked tables. Following the title loss Edge began teaming with Randy Orton as Rated-RKO. The duo won the World Tag Team Championship, making Edge a record eleven-time tag team champion in the process.

In 2007, Edge defeated Mr. Kennedy to win the MITB briefcase, which he then used to cash in on the Undertaker to win his first World Heavyweight Championship. After having to relinquish it due to injury he began an onscreen relationship with SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero.

At Armageddon, Edge defeated the Undertaker and Batista in a Triple Threat match to win the World Heavyweight Championship. He continued to feud with both defeating them several times with help from Guerrero, Zack Ryder, and Curtis Hawkins to successfully retain the title.

After losing the title to the Undertaker in a Hell in a Cell match at SummerSlam in 2008, Edge took some time off before returning later that year to win the WWE Championship from Triple H. At No Way Out he lost the title in an Elimination Chamber only to win the World Heavyweight Championship in another chamber match later that night.

After another tag team title win taking his total to twelve he suffered an injury that sidelined him for a year. Upon his return in 2010 won the Royal Rumble match for the first time in his career, but subsequently lost his title challenge at WrestleMania 26. He would win the World Heavyweight Championship for a record seventh time thus making him an eleven-time World Champion in the process.

The following year, Edge was forced to retire following a diagnosis of cervical spinal stenosis, which resulted in doctors being unable to clear him for competition, for the risk of paralysis or even death.

On March 31, 2012, Edge was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by Christian, during WrestleMania XXVIII weekend. He continued to make sporadic appearances for the company while he found success as an actor on shows such as Haven and Vikings.

In 2020, Edge made a sensational comeback at the Royal Rumble. Following his return he embarked on a deeply personal feud with Randy Orton. They would meet in a Last Man Standing match at WrestleMania 36 and a match dubbed as the “Greatest Wrestling Match Ever” at Backlash.

He returned again at Royal Rumble in 2021 winning the match for the second time in his career before going on to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 37. The following year he teamed with his wife Beth Phoenix to defeat The Miz and Maryse before beginning the group Judgement Day/ However, the faction turned on him and ejected him from the group leading to a lengthy feud with Finn Balor.
