Lita: 2023 Biography, Net Worth, Family, Income

Amy Dumas better known as Lita is a professional wrestler, actor, and singer. She was born on April 14th, 1975, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The star entered the wrestling business in 1997 having been inspired by the legendary Rey Mysterio. She travelled to Mexico to learn and train the way of Lucha from El Dandy and Ricky Santana.

In 1998, under the name Angelica, she made her in-ring debut for CMLL, Back in the States the would-be star worked in the independent scene where she met her future Team Xtreme teammates the Hardy Boyz. The following year, Paul Heyman gave her a gig in ECW where debuted as the girlfriend of Danny Doring called Miss Congeniality.

While in ECW she continued her training under the tutelage of Dory Funk Jr, who compiled a tape of her performances and sent it to WWE. The company liked what it saw and offered her a developmental deal shortly after.

She was assigned to Memphis Championship Wrestling before making her debut as Lita alongside Essa Rios in 2000. The duo entered a feud with Eddie Guererro and Chyna prior to breaking up. Rios was angered at a loss and took it out on her resulting in Matt and Jeff Hardy making the save.

Lita joined the brothers thus forming Team Xtreme in the process. Their youthful and edgy look skyrocketed their popularity. Lita was influential in the success of the team and often found herself executing death-defying moves against male opponents, something that was rarely seen in WWE.

In 2001, she won the first-ever women’s battle royal to become the number one contender to the Women’s Championship held by Stephanie McMahon-Hemsley. With The Rock as the Special Guest Referee, she defeated McMahon-Hemsley to win the title for the time in her career.

After dropping the title to Ivory, she entered a storyline with Dean Malenko and challenged him for the WWE Light Heavyweight Championship. She was then part of a memorable angle with the Two Man Power Trip Stone Cold Steve Austin and Triple H. She was destroyed by the duo, first with a Pedigree from The Game then followed by a barrage of chair shots from the Rattlesnake.

A few months later during the WCW/ECW invasion angle, she teamed with Trish Stratus to fend off the WCW duo of Stacy Keibler and Torrie Wilson. She was then involved in the feud between Matt and Jeff that resulted in the breakup of Team Xtreme.

However, Lita was sidelined shortly after for 17 months following an incident during the filming of an episode of Dark Angel. the resulting injury left the star needing neck surgery. She returned to action in 2003 and began a feud with Molly Holly over the women’s title. During this time Matt Hardy turned on her claiming she cared for the title more than him. He then cost her a match against Victoria in the first-ever women’s steel cage match.

The following year she challenged for the women’s title once again this time against a heel Trish Stratus. The champ constantly berated Lita resulting in her snapping at Stratus, legitimately breaking her nose and attacking her with a steel chair. This led to them becoming the first women to headline a Monday Night Raw.

During the historic match, Lita won the title for the second time. Following the title win she was sidelined due to injury putting her on the shelf for four months. Upon returning to action she sided with Edge turning her heel in the process. The two were then involved in a deeply personal feud with Matt Hardy, who publicly uncovered their real-life affair.

After helping Edge defeat Hardy she then assisted him to defeat John Cena for the WWE Championship. She remained Edge’s valet constantly interfering on his behalf. In 2006 she captured the women’s title for the third time defeating Mickie James. She lost the title to Stratus in her retirement match at Unforgiven but would regain it for the fourth and final time at Cyber Sunday.

Later that year she announced her retirement from WWE. She competed in her last match for the company at Survivor Series where she dropped the title to James.

She made several appearances for independent promotions such as United Wrestling Federation and MCW Pro Wrestling. She made sporadic appearances for WWE at special anniversary editions of Raw. Most notably the 1000th episode of Raw in 2012 where she defeated Heath Slater.

In 2014 she was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by Trish Stratus. At WrestleMania 32, in a historic segment, she retired the Divas Championship and introduced the new Women’s Championship.

In 2018 she returned to action at the inaugural women’s Royal Rumble match and then at the women’s PPV Evolution. In 2022, she returned again to challenge Becky Lynch for the Raw Women’s Championship at Elimination Chamber in Saudi Arabia.

She and Lynch then united to challenge for and win the Women’s Tag Team Championships from Dakota Kai and IYO SKY. The new champs then joined forces with Trish Stratus and will face Damage CTRL at WrestleMania 39.

Due to her look, style, and popularity, Lita revolutionised women’s wrestling in WWE. She is cited as an inspiration for multiple generations of Superstars such as AJ Lee, Bayley, Becky Lynch, and many more.
