Adam Copeland Weighs In On AEW Vs. WWE Rivalry

Adam Copeland cuts a promo on AEW Dynamite

Adam Copeland is excited to see AEW Dynamite and NXT go head-to-head.

Due to the MLB Playoffs, AEW Dynamite has moved to Tuesday night for one week only, and more importantly directly up against NXT. The scheduling quirk has reignited talk of a war between AEW and WWE, with long-time fans drawing slightly flimsy parallels between the head-to-head and the Monday Night Wars in the 1990s.

To add to the intrigue, the scheduling clash comes just weeks after Adam Copeland moved from WWE to AEW, and Jade Cargill moved in the opposite direction.

Appearing on the Masked Man Show, Copeland discussed the supposed “war,” giving his take on the situation. The WWE Hall of Famer explained that from his point of view, the competition can only be a good thing.

“Who cares ‘I’m only this guy, I’m only this guy.’ This is awesome. How can you not enjoy the fact that both shows are trying to load up and trying to put the best show on imaginable? That’s all I really care about. I’ll try to make sure that my part of the show is all killer, no filler. That’s my only job.

I’m sure both will get watched, when it’s all said and done with DVR and however else it gets computed since everything with ratings is so antiquated. It’s fun.

I remember flipping back and forth between Nitro and Raw. That’s kind of what this is. I don’t see that as a bad thing at all. I think it’s great. The performers themselves, there is none of this weird tribalism. Within any industry, sure, there is competition, but I’m happy for those guys and they’re happy for us.

When there are choices and there is another company that can push the other company, that’s when you get the best stuff,”

In recent news, Adam Copeland has talked about how he feels about his current full-time run with AEW.

Adam Copeland To Make AEW In-Ring Debut On Dynamite

In response to the scheduling clash, WWE has loaded NXT with Cody Rhodes, Paul Heyman, John Cena and Asuka all set to appear. The show will also run commercial-free for the first 30 minutes.

For his part, Tony Khan has announced Dynamite will have a 30-minute buy-in before Dynamite and a 10-minute overrun at the end of the show. The episode has been dubbed ‘Title Tuesday’ with a number of top stars in action. The episode will also see Adam Copeland wrestle in an AEW ring for the first time when he takes on Luchasaurus.
