The Undertaker: 2022 Biography, Net Worth, Family, Income
Mark Calaway – better known as The Undertaker – began his legendary career began in 1987 when he joined World Class Championship Wrestling under the name Texas Red. Over the next few years, he wrestled in territories around the US under various guises. This included a short run in WCW in 1989 as Mean Mark Callous.
Calaway made his WWE debut at Survivor Series on November 22nd, 1990 as The Undertaker, this was the character that would go on to define his career. The Deadman went undefeated for months after his debut and began his unmatched WrestleMania Streak with a win over ‘Superfly’ Jimmy Snuka at the seventh edition of the Showcase Of The Immortals. During this time, he also began his partnership with Paul Bearer, who took over managerial services for the star from Brother Love.
His first loss came at the hands of the Ultimate Warrior who defeated him in a Body Bag match on the July 1st, 1991 edition of WWE’s MSG Network TV show. Despite the loss, The Undertaker was still a dominant force in the company and went on to defeat Hulk Hogan for the WWE Championship at that year’s Survivor Series. Unfortunately, he lost it back to Hogan less than a week later.
Over the next few years, The Undertaker had legendary rivalries with the likes of Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts, Yokozuna, Ted DiBiase’s Million Dollar Corporation, and Mankind.
In 1997, The Undertaker began one of the longest-lived feuds in WWE history when Glenn Jacobs took on the role of his onscreen brother, Kane. For over a decade, the pair battled each other in vicious bouts that included Inferno, Buried Alive, and Hell in a Cell matches. Despite their vicious battles, the duo also went through periods of teaming together as The Brothers of Destruction, winning the WWE Tag Team Championships twice.
The year 2000 marked a huge change in The Undertaker’s career as he abandoned the gothic style he was known for to embrace a character truer to the real-life Mark Calaway. Returning from injury at that year’s Judgment Day on a motorcycle and wearing a bandana and trench coat, signalling the birth of the American Badass.
Undertaker saw a lot of success over the following few years, including a memorable reign as the Hardcore Champion and a run as the Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion. Despite only holding the latter title for 63 days, he had classic matches with the likes of Triple H, Jeff Hardy, and Kurt Angle.
After being buried alive at the hands of Vince McMahon and Kane at Survivor Series 2003, The Undertaker returned as The Deadman complete with Paul Bearer and druids at WrestleMania XX. He would go on to be a key part of SmackDown from then on, often acting as long-time General Manager Teddy Long’s ultimate deterrent, with the threat of going “one on one with The Undertaker” looming large over the villains of the brand.
Over the following years, The Phenom began winding down his career and taking more time off each year until he was mainly making appearances to defend his WrestleMania streak. Even that came to an end at WrestleMania XXX in 2014 when Brock Lesnar shocked the world by pinning him in the middle of the ring after three F5s.
After the loss, The Undertaker continued to make appearances for the company for marquee matches at both WrestleMania and the company’s events in Saudi Arabia. In 2020, at WrestleMania 36, however, he hung up his boots for good after defeating AJ Styles in a highly acclaimed cinematic Boneyard Match. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2022.
