Dwayne ‘ The Rock’ Johnson: 2022 Biography, Net Worth, Family, Income
The son of Rocky Johnson and grandson of ‘High Chief’ Peter Maivia, Dwayne Johnson seemed destined to enter the world of professional wrestling. However, he first tried his hand at football, playing for the University of Miami from 1990-1994 and then signing with the Canadian Football League’s Calgary Stampeders in 1995. However, he was cut from that team only two months into the season.
The following year, Johnson began his pro wrestling career in the USWA under the name Flex Cavana. He was only in that promotion for five months before being signed by WWE.
Dwayne Johnson was repackaged as Rocky Maivia when he debuted at the 1996 Survivor Series event, teaming with Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts, Marc Mero, and Barry Windham – then known as The Stalker.
Portraying a classic babyface, Maivia quickly rose up the ranks in WWE and captured the Intercontinental Championship from future rival Triple H in February 1997, only three months after his debut.
Over the following months, WWE became an edgier product as it entered the Attitude Era and audiences became less enamoured with the ever-positive Maivia, even chanting “Die, Rocky, die” during his matches. This led to a dramatic shift in his character as he joined the heel Nation of Domination stable and renamed himself ‘The Rock’.
During his time in The Nation, he developed the unique promo style of referring to himself in the third person while running people down in a way only The Rock can. He also continued his feud with Triple H and his faction, D-Generation X, with the two groups clashing repeatedly for several months.
At Survivor Series 1998, only two years after his debut, The Rock won the one-night Deadly Games tournament to capture the WWE Championship for the first time and aligned himself with Vince McMahon’s Corporation in the process.
After the title win, The Rock quickly solidified himself as one of WWE’s top Superstars with arguably only ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin matching him in terms of star power. After a brutal feud with Mankind – aka Mick Foley – and then Austin, he became a babyface once again and only increased in stardom.
By 2001, The Rock had won the WWE Championship six times and the World Heavyweight Championship twice. It was then that he started to wind down his wrestling career and, thanks to his massive mainstream appeal, entered the world of Hollywood, debuting as The Scorpion King in 2001’s The Mummy Returns and then, in 2002, reprising the character for a spin-off prequel.
Over the past two decades, Dwayne Johnson has starred in dozens of movies including franchises such as Fast and Furious and Jumanji, as well as the likes of Hercules, The Other Guys, and Rampage. Most recently, he has made his comic book movie debut as DC’s Black Adam.
He has also appeared in many TV Shows and was Executive Producer for the comedy-drama series Ballers and created a show based on his early years, appropriately named Young Rock.
The Rock has made several returns to the ring in the past few years, most notably headlining back-to-back WrestleManias against John Cena in 2012 and 2013.
Net Worth
As of October 2022, Dwayne Johnson has an estimated net worth of an incredible $800 million, making him the richest wrestler in the world by some margin.
Family
Dwayne Johnson married his first wife, Dany Garcia, in 1997. The couple divorced over 10 years later in 2008. They had a daughter, Simone Johnson, in 2001. Simone is currently competing in WWE under the name Ava Raine.
The Rock married his current wife, Lauren Hashian, in 2019. The pair have two daughters, Jasmine and Tiana, who were born in 2015 and 2018 respectively.
Income
According to Forbes, The Rock is still Hollywood’s highest-paid actor, having earned $270 million in 2022. Although some of that income came from his recent movie roles, he earned the bulk of the cash through his estimated 30-40% stake in the tequila brand Teremana.
Record
According to Cagematch.net, since beginning his career in 1996, Dwayne Johnson has competed in 854 matches, with a record of 452 wins, 355 defeats and 47 draws. That puts his career win percentage at 52.9%.
Figures are correct as of October 27th 2022.
