Eddie Kingston Recalls Incredible Conversation With Tony Khan

Eddie Kingston celebrates at AEW Grand Slam

Eddie Kingston recently signed a new four year day with AEW.

After breaking the news to fans, and pointing out that there was no speculation over his deal expiring because he does his business privately, Kingston would recall an incredible conversation with Tony Khan.

Speaking with AdFreeShows.com, Eddie Kingston took the opportunity to praise Khan and talk about how much he likes working with him:

“I love Tony Khan to death. He’s a great f*cking human being. He’s a great human being. Sometimes I think he’s too good. That’s just my opinion.

“Tony has such a big heart. I love that man. I love him because, and this is a big one, he listens to our ideas, even if they’re f*cking horrible. I’ve heard guys pitch stuff to him and he’ll ask me to stay, and I’ll be like, ‘Oh my God. This is bad’, but he’ll actually sit there and listen and take it in and actually try to work with the guy.

“I remember a couple of times I would tell him, ‘Why do you care when they don’t care about you’, or, ‘Why do you care if they don’t care if this company stays open?’ He goes, ‘Eddie, I’m paying them so I have to care.” [h/t WrestlingNews.co]

Dave Meltzer

Dave Meltzer Questions AEW's "Very Strange" & "Weak" Booking

AEW Dave Meltzer

Dave Metlzer is often seen defending AEW from the plague of questionable criticisms (and sometimes valid) that the company finds itself subjected to on social media.

However, in this morning’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Metlzer has criticised the company for it’s “very strange” booking of MJF heading into AEW WrestleDream.

Meltzer comments:

“It’s also very strange to have a PPV where MJF, the top draw, is in a handicap match against people who have had little TV time, and is not even one of the top matches on the show.

This was originally to be MJF & Adam Cole as a team, which was still terribly weak for the top draw and world champion on a PPV, but at least had the MJF & Cole tag team dynamic.

When Cole was injured they should have switched things around and gotten MJF in a match with real anticipation.

It will be interesting if the dream match for hardcore fans will keep PPV buys up. Most expected well above usual numbers for Forbidden Door which had two of those dream matches, Danielson vs. Okada and Omega vs. Ospreay, and that show ended up doing the usual numbers that every PPV aside from All Out and All In have done starting with the 2022 All Out show, in the 140,000 or so range. All In was high even in a bad time slot, but it was a unique show.

The other biggest number during that period was Revolution in San Francisco with the MJF vs. Danielson Iron Man match, but that number was way up due to the huge number of late buys.”

Matt Riddle Could Be AEW's Next Jon Moxley - Dave Meltzer

Matt Riddle Could Be AEW's Next Jon Moxley - Dave Meltzer

Dave Meltzer has speculated that Matt Riddle could become AEW’s next Jon Moxley.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Dave Meltzer wrote that recently released WWE Superstar Matt Riddle could be AEW’s next Jon Moxley. Meltzer made the comparison between Riddle and Moxley, noting that they both left WWE after being considered mid-carders and for their tendency to lose matches.

“We’ve heard people say AEW doesn’t need new talent that can’t be top guys, basically with the idea since they weren’t top guys in WWE that AEW can’t use them. But it should be noted Riddle’s role in his last few months with the company and Jon Moxley’s role, where he always lost, in his last few months were identical.”

Mustafa Ali

"Several People" Unhappy With Mustafa Ali Being Released By WWE

NXT No Mercy 2023 - Dominik Mysterio (c) vs. Mustafa Ali - NXT North American Championship

Mustafa Ali was the first name announced during the recent round of WWE releases, and according to a new report it has not gone down well backstage.

Fightful Select has reported that Ali’s WWE release has left several names backstage “unhappy” with the companies management.

The general belief is that Ali was gaining steam as part of WWE’s NXT brand and that they were “frustrated” over the lack of communication surrounding his release and how it would impact NXT plans.

Prior to his release, Ali was set to take on Dominik Mysterio for the NXT North American Championship.

With just two weeks before the show NXT was forced to find a new opponent for Mysterio, eventually landing on Carmelo Hayes right hand man Trick Williams.

Riddle

Matt Riddle Had Heat With WWE Management Following Incident With Randy Orton

Riddle Thumb

Jumping back over to Matt Riddle, more information has come to light regarding how ‘The Stallion’ was viewed by WWE management prior to his release.

It was already noted that Riddle had a bad reputation with WWE management for his failed drug tests and recent airport antics.

However, a new report has also revealed that an incident regarding Randy Orton during an interview last year landed Riddle with some serious heat from WWE officials.

Writing in this morning’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer would reveal:

“Riddle also had heat with management at one point right after that for going off the script and putting over Orton on a live television interview when talking about how much pain Orton was in during the latter stages of their team and before the injury angle was shot.

While praised for the promo going behind the scenes and being real, it was not what was scripted for him.

His role after that point was being a popular babyface who had good matches, played his naive stoner gimmick, but was mostly there to put over the pushed heels such as a program where he continually lost to Gunther.”

Edge

"The Ball Is In Edge's Court" Regarding AEW Signing

Edge WrestleMania 37

On Sunday, October 1st, Edge will officially become a free agent.

Could we see ‘The Rated R Superstar’ make his AEW debut this Sunday at WrestleDream? According to Dave Meltzer, ‘the ball is in Edge’s court’ when it comes to a potential AEW move.

Writing in this morning’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer would comment on the potential of AEW signing Edge or any of the recently released WWE talent including Dolph Ziggler and Matt Riddle.

Meltzer would note:

“Edge, a bigger name than all of them, might be interested in going, since his contract expires this week with WWE.

He would have the most short-term value, although at his age that would have to be thought of as short-term.

The fact Tony Khan feels Christian is so valuable right now at the same age and that AEW and Edge were negotiating a deal three plus years ago when WWE came back with a better deal would indicate on this one that the ball is in Edge’s court.”

ITV Set To Air AEW WrestleDream For Free In The UK

AEW WrestleDream poster

If you are based in the UK and keen to watch AEW WrestleDream but can’t afford the PPV price or don’t fancy staying up until 1am to start the show then fear not.

ITV has you covered.

ITV 4 is set to air AEW WrestleDream FREE on the 5th of October at 10:30pm BST – the show will then go on ITV X (ITV’s on-demand service) making the show accessible anytime for no additional cost to UK residents.

Dave Meltzer would comment on this in this morning’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, explaining how this may harm PPV buys for the event in the UK.

Meltzer states:

“ITV 4 will be airing WrestleDream as a free special on 10/5 at 10:30 p.m. This could hurt the PPV buys in the U.K. and will certainly hurt the late buys.”

LA Knight

Update On LA Knight's WWE Status Following COVID-19 Diagnosis

LA Knight On SmackDown

LA Knight was pulled from last week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown at the last minute due to testing positive for COVID-19.

The most popular man in WWE, Knight was set for a huge dark match segment featuring John Cena, however, instead was forced to leave the venue and head home.

A new report has provided an update on Knight’s status ahead of tonight’s episode of SmackDown.

According to a new report from PWInsider, Knight will be back during tonight’s episode of SmackDown after just one week.

Fans have been speculating over Knight’s possible involvement at WWE’s upcoming Fastlane PLE.

Cena & Styles were initially set to take on Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso, however, Styles was then attacked backstage by The Bloodline members, seemingly taking ‘The Face That Runs The Place’ out of the equation and opening the door for LA Knight to team with Cena in what would be a monumental moment for the former IMPACT & NWA star.

Riddle

"A Number Of Companies" Interested In Signing Matt Riddle

Matt Riddle Captures US Champions

Matt Riddle may be posting cryptic posts regarding his future, but according to a new report ‘The Stallion’ is not short of opportunities following his WWE release.

Writing in this morning’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer would reveal that Riddle has interest from a “number of companies” across both MMA and professional wrestling.

Meltzer notes:

“Since the word last week of his being let go, there has been interest by a number of companies in both pro wrestling and MMA

. Most pro wrestling companies of any size immediately expressed interest, and in MMA, both PFL and Bare Knuckle Fighting had expressed interest due to his name value from WWE and the fact he was a decent MMA fighter.

Riddle hasn’t fought in nine years and is 37, and real fighting is not a sport it would be wise to go back into unless it’s a big money offer.

We’ve also seen with C.M. Punk that getting exposed in real fighting does not hurt someone when returning to pro wrestling as fans see them as different worlds.”

Will Ospreay AEW All In

This is Ospreay’s 29th five star match, extending his lead the WON most decorated wrestler of all time.

Writing in this morning’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer would praise the match, noting:

“Just beautiful stuff. Tsuji did a tope and even a Fosbury flop at his size.

Tsuji whipped Ospreay into the barricade but Ospreay leap frogged over it. Ospreay did a forearm off the guard rail.

All kinds of big moves and this was by far the best Tsuji has ever looked.

Tsuji used a brainbuster Tsuji blocked an Oscutter on the apron. Ospreay came off the middle ropes with an Oscutter t the floor. Tsuji barely beat the 20 count in

. Ospreay did a coast-to-coast dropkick as Tsuji got back in. Tsuji used a cub stomp for a near fall. Ospreay did an Oscutter for a near fall. Ospreay went for stormbreaker but Tsuji turned it into a stunner.

Tsuji hit the spear but Ospreay got his foot on the ropes. Tsuji did a curb stomp off the top rope and a storm breaker. Tsuji tired another spear but Ospreay hit hidden lade and Ospreay hit a spear. Tsuji kicked out at one.

Ospreay used a storm drive for a near fall, another hidden blade and stormbreaker.

Ospreay after the match told Tsuji “you are amazing” and that the future of New Japan is in great hands. Sabre then came out and they set up their U.K. title match.”

Johnson, who purchased the XFL back in 2020, would take to Twitter to share the announcement.

The WWE legend would reveal that the XFL will be merging with the USFL to form a unified and premier Spring based football federation.

Both the XFL and the FOX owned USFL would release a statement on the merger, reading:

“If the transaction is consummated, the new league will establish best-in-class operations based on the most recent seasons of both leagues.”

“This historic combination will anchor professional spring football with substantial capabilities and resources to ensure future growth and continue to enhance the development of the collective players, coaches, and staff that are coming together.”
