Bill Goldberg simply known in the wrestling world as Goldberg is a professional wrestler, former NFL player, and actor. He was born on December 27th, 1966 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

After an NFL career that saw him play for the Los Angeles Rams, Atlanta Falcons, and Georgia Panthers, Goldberg burst onto the wrestling for WCW in 1997.

Before joining the promotion, he met Sting and Lex Luger while training in the gym. The two stars were impressed with him and invited him to join WCW’s training facility, the Power Plant.

Following a crash course in professional wrestling he made his in-ring debut in the summer of 1997 and after only five matches and five wins, appeared on WCW’s flagship show, Monday Night Nitro.

His explosive debut kicked off one of the most impressive winning streaks in professional wrestling history. By 1998, he had defeated twenty-one opponents in a quick and decisive fashion. His powerful and destructive performances made him hugely popular with the audiences and his rapid rise through the ranks continued.

Throughout the year his opponents got better, but that didn’t slow his momentum. He defeated Raven for the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship and his soaring success saw him come head to head with the nWo’s Hollywood Hulk Hogan.

On a special edition of Nitro, he faced Hogan for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. At the Georgia Dome in Atlanta with over 40,000 in attendance and millions watching at home, he defeated Hogan for the title. As champion, he continued his undefeated streak until he met Kevin Nash at Starrcade. At the pay-per-view, he lost the title and his first match in WCW ending his run at an artificially inflated 173-0.

Following the loss, he teamed with Bret Hart and won the WCW Tag Team Championships in 1999. Their partnership quickly dissolved and Goldberg unsuccessfully challenged Hart for the Heavyweight Championship.

During an angle with the nWo, in which he was smashing up their limousine he accidentally sliced open his arm severing an artery in the process. So severe was the injury he had to be transported to the hospital for emergency surgery.

He returned in 2000 and after a misguided feud with Vince Russo was forced “retire” in an angle, which recreated his legendary streak. During his time away WWE purchased WCW but did not buy him out of his lucrative Time Warner contract.

After waiting out the remainder of his WCW contract, he returned to the ring for All Japan Pro Wrestling in 2002. While in the promotion he wrestled Satoshi Kojima, Taiyō Kea, and Rick Steiner. The following year he signed a one-year contract with WWE. The night after WrestleMania XIX he made his long-awaited debut. He interfered in a segment with the Rock, taking him out with his signature Spear.

He defeated The Rock at Backlash and embarked on another undefeated streak. At SummerSlam, he suffered his first loss inside the Elimination Chamber at the hands of Triple H and his trusty sledgehammer. At the following PPV, Unforgiven he defeated The Game for the World Heavyweight Championship and his first title in WWE.

At the 2004 Royal Rumble, he was eliminated by Brock Lesnar, which led to the two meeting at WrestleMania XX. Fans knew this would be the final WWE match for both Goldberg and Lesnar and heavily booed them both throughout.

Following his departure, he hasn’t seen in a wrestling ring again until 2015 when he made two appearances for Legends of Wrestling. In 2016 he appeared as the special pre-order bonus for the upcoming WWE 2K17 video game. This reignited his feud with Lesnar who was the cover star of the game. Goldberg returned to WWE to take on Lesnar at Survivor Series defeating him in just 83 seconds.

At Fastlane, in 2017 Goldberg defeated Owens for the Universal Championship before taking on Lesnar one final time at WrestleMania 33. The following year he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. In 2019 he fought The Undertaker at the Super ShowDown in an infamous match due to several huge botches. His next match was at SummerSlam, where he defeated Dolph Ziggler.

Goldberg returned to WWE in 2020 at Super ShowDown to defeat The Fiend and win the Universal Championship for the second time. At WrestleMania 36, Goldberg lost the title to Braun Strowman.

After a 9-month absence, Goldberg returned again to face Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble 2021. After another lengthy hiatus, he returned to face Bobby Lashley in a no holds barred match at Crown Jewel.

Then in his last match for WWE, Goldberg challenged Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at Elimination Chamber 2022. In 2023, it was reported he is no longer contracted to the company.
