Booker T Believes AEW Dream Match Would Be “A Disaster”

With AEW preparing to host All In at Wembley Stadium in the UK, attention has turned to the kind of card that could fill the 90, 000 capacity venue.

Many fans are hoping for dream matches like The Elite clashing with CM Punk and FTR, Kenny Omega taking on Kazuchika Okada for the fifth bout of their acclaimed series, or seeing Sting hit the ring one final time before hanging up his boots.

Another name that has been talked about for the event is the legendary Goldberg, who Tony Khan has previously admitted would be an “interesting acquisition” for the company. One man who already has his sights on the star is Wardlow. During a recent interview, the TNT Champion claimed “it doesn’t get bigger” than that bout.

Booker T thinks Goldberg vs. Wardlow would be a “disaster”

However, one man who thinks that such a match would be a bad idea is Booker T.

Speaking on his ‘Hall of Fame’ podcast, the six-time World Champion explained that while it might look good on paper, in the ring would be a different story.

“No, not for me. It’s great on paper. It’s something I could see headlining the marquee — I could see that.

“But, I’m talking about what could happen in an actual match between Wardlow and Goldberg.

“That could be a disaster, a total and complete disaster. I would not recommend this match.”

When asked who he would have face the star instead, Booker named Darby Allin.

“Darby Allin. [Goldberg can] beat him up and get out there. That would be my pick.”

Goldberg recently revealed that he was promised a retirement match by Vince McMahon but it obviously never happened.

However, it has since been reported that planning for the match was underway with Paul Heyman heavily involved.

Despite this, everything came to a halt when McMahon became embroiled in the sexual assault scandal which ultimately saw him ‘retire’ from the company in July 2022.
