Goldberg hasn’t wrestled since being defeated by Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber in February 2022, however, the legend claims that his career isn’t quite done yet.
Speaking in April, the WWE Hall of Famer said that he would be the person to decide when its time to hang up his boots. During the same interview, Goldberg also revealed that he had been promised a retirement match in WWE by Vince McMahon, but it never came together.
With his free agent status, there has been talk of the star turning up in AEW, or even running his own retirement show/tour.
During a recent episode of his 83 Weeks podcast, Eric Bischoff, Goldberg’s former boss in WCW, said that a retirement tour would be a “horrible idea.” Bischoff explained that while Ric Flair found success in promoting his ‘last match’ as a standalone independent event, Goldberg isn’t Ric Flair.
“There’s not generations of Bill Goldberg fans out there, there are generations of Ric Flair fans out there, Ric Flair is arguably as popular today in many respects,
Bill, comparatively speaking has been in the business for five minutes when you compare him to someone like Ric Flair. I hope he gets a lot of money upfront, let’s just put it that way.”
Bischoff went on to say that he doesn’t want to Goldberg get back in the ring at all commenting, “I just wish he wouldn’t do it.”
“I don’t want to see a lesser version of Bill Goldberg get back into the ring and again, if he doesn’t need the money and I can’t imagine that he does, I don’t know why he’d do it,” Bischoff said. “I just wish he wouldn’t do it. Here’s the other thing, you want to be remembered for being at your peak.”
AEW Star Calls For Match With Goldberg
During his AEW career to date, Wardlow has repeatedly been compared to Goldberg, something that seemingly hasn’t gone unnoticed by the man himself. During a recent appearance, the TNT Champion said that it doesn’t get bigger than a dream match with the former WWE star.
However, Booker T responded by suggesting that the hypothetical match would be a “disaster.”
