Sting 2023: Biography, Net Worth, Family, Income

Steve Borden was born on March 20th, 1959 in Omaha, Nebraska. He is a legendary professional wrestler known as Sting.

He is widely regarded as one of the greatest characters in professional wrestling history. He is a highly-decorated and well-respected performer and his popularity inspired multiple generations of wrestlers such as John Cena, Seth Rollins, and Jeff Hardy.

He began his legendary wrestling journey in 1985 alongside the Ultimate Warrior as the Blade Runners. After impressing Eddie Gilbert and Dusty Rhodes, Sting was pushed as a top singles competitor in the NWA.

At the inaugural Clash of the Champions in 1988, he kicked off his career-defining rivalry with Ric Flair. He continued to feud with Flair and the Four Horseman which saw him quickly rise to main event status and become the promotion’s top babyface.

He won his first singles title, the NWA World Television Championship in 1989. At the Great American Bash in 1990, Sting finally defeated Flair to be crowned the NWA World Heavyweight Championship for the first time in his career.

Following the WCW’s withdrawal from the NWA, Sting won a tournament to win the vacant WCW United States Heavyweight Championship. He then entered a long-running feud with Paul Heyman‘s Dangerous Alliance, which culminated in a WarGames match at WrestleWar 92.

That same year he won WCW World Heavyweight Championship defeating Lex Luger at SuperBrawl II in 1992. He then entered another career-defining rivalry with Big Van Vadar over the title, which saw them trade the championship on several occasions. The following year, Sting won the WCW International World Heavyweight Championship twice – a title contested in both WCW and NJPW

Sting lost the title in a unification match with Flair rekindled their rivalry in the process and the old enemies clashed on the first-ever edition of Monday Nitro. That same year he teamed with Luger to win the WCW World Tag Team Championship.

In 1996, WCW changed drastically with the arrival of The Outsiders: Kevin Nash and Scott Hall. The duo was taking over the promotion and as the franchise of WCW, Sting was the first to stand up to them. He teamed with Luger and Randy Savage to defend WCW against Hall, Nash, and a mysterious third member, who turned out to be Hulk Hogan.

Following the formation of the nWo, Sting’s allegiance to WCW came under fire when the new faction hinted he had joined the crew by employing an actor who looked and acted like him. Sting took severe offence to the doubt cast around his loyalty and after cutting a scathing promo in the crowd he left the company.

He returned to the promotion a few months later with a new iconic look based on the film The Crow. Donned in a long black trench coat and body suit, he wore white face paint complete with black eyes and lips while carrying a baseball bat. Upon taking out “nWo Sting” he stalked the faction from the rafters often repelling down to the ring to attack members of the group.

At Starrcade 1997 in his first match in over a year, Sting defeated Hogan for the World Heavyweight title but was forced to vacate it following the controversial ending of the rematch. He re-captured the title for the fourth time in his career before dropping it to Macho Man Randy Savage.

Sting then joined the Kevin Nash-led nWo Wolfpac and changed his look from black and white to red and black to show solidarity in the fight against Hogan’s nWo Hollywood. He won the Tag Team titles with the Giant before an injury sidelined him for the remainder of 1998. He returned in 1999 and won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship another two times before the promotion folded in the following year.

After the closure of WCW Sting headed to TNA where he made several appearances for the new promotion from 2003 to 2004. He returned to the company in 2006 where he entered a long-running feud with Jeff Jarrett over the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, which he won for the second time in his career.

While in TNA, he won the TNA World Heavyweight Championship four times, the World Tag Team Championships once with Kurt Angle, and in 2012 he was the first-ever inductee into the TNA Hall of Fame.

In 2014 Sting made his WWE debut at Survivor Series attacking Triple H causing the Authority the match. A few months later he made his first-ever appearance on Monday Night Raw once again meddling in Triple H’s business.

The two clashed at WrestleMania 31 in a match that featured D-X and nWo. His next and final WWE match took a few months later against Seth Rollins for the WWE Heavyweight Championship at Night of Champions. A year later he was inducted into the Hall of Fame where he announced his retirement from professional wrestling.

At Winter is Coming in 2020 he made a surprise appearance for AEW. The following week it was announced that he had signed a multi-year deal with the company. He aligned himself with fellow face-painted wrestler Darby Allin and teamed up with him at Revolution for his first match in five years.
