Date & Location Set For Sting's Final AEW Match

Sting will return to a venue close to his heart for his last in-ring match.

The Icon recently announced that his final match would take place at Revolution 2024, 3 years on from his debut match with AEW. Tony Khan, who is a great admirer of The Icon and even arranged a surprise AEW debut from Ric Flair to mark the occasion, has selected a historic venue.

Sting and Flair appeared alongside Tony Schiavone on the November 29th edition of Dynamite. Schiavone stated that many locations were considered, even potentially an international date. However, it was decided that the location should be none other than the venue where The Icon and The Nature Boy tore the house down in 1988 at the first ever Clash of the Champions; The Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina. The date of the match will be March 3rd, almost exactly 35 years on from the Clash of the Champions match, which took place on March 27.

The legendary wrestler reminisced about his first World Title match and never thought he would be standing alongside Flair and Schiavone more than 3 decades later. The Icon thanked Flair for putting him on the map, with Flair hyping up the final match for one of his greatest rivals.

Tony Khan To Choose Sting’s Final Opponent Carefully

With the time and date set for the former World Champion’s final match, all that is needed now is to choose the final opponent. Due to the age and previous injuries associated with the Hall of Famer, Tony Khan has detailed the process behind choosing Sting’s AEW opponents, wanting to make sure that The Icon is both comfortable to be in the ring with and excited to have a match with.
