Ric Flair Responds To AEW Outrage, “More Than Willing To Walk Away”; Multiple Legends Comment

Ric Flair sad

Ric Flair responded to online outrage about his promo taped for the December 1st episode of AEW Rampage.

The October 25th episode of AEW Dynamite saw Ric Flair make a surprise appearance as a special gift to Sting from Tony Khan. On November 2nd, it was announced that Flair had signed a multi-year deal with the company and also that his Wooooo! Energy drink would be the exclusive energy drink of AEW.

Flair was in Sting’s corner as The Icon teamed with Adam Copeland and Darby Allin at Full Gear, even getting physical and delivering chops to Christian Cage before receiving a low blow from the TNT Champion.

On November 29th, Ric Flair made another appearance, this time during an AEW Rampage taping immediately following Dynamite. He reportedly cut a promo on the show, and fans online were outraged at the line:

“18-28 no boyfriends, no husbands, meet me at my hotel room.”

Flair has been delivering similar lines in his promos for decades, but he’s lost support from a large portion of fandom in recent years, particularly since being accused of sexual assault on an episode of Dark Side of the Ring.Flair has vehemently denied these allegations.

“I’m Sorry” – Ric Flair After AEW Rampage Promo

Taking to social media, Ric Flair addressed the backlash to his Rampage promo, saying that he’s tired of negativity surrounding him and that he wants to be allowed to live his life in peace. He also made the surprising declaration that despite being exactly where he wants to be in AEW, he is willing to walk away if he’s too much of an embarrassment to Tony Khan and the company.

“I Am So Tired Of Hearing All This Negativity! I Don’t Need To Work, And I Don’t Need The Money. Can’t I Simply Enjoy Being By My Dear Friend @Sting ’s Side For The Next Few Months Without So Much Hatred? I Know I’m Old, But That Doesn’t Mean I Can’t Enjoy Life! I Have Earned The Right To Do Whatever I Want & I’m Exactly Where I Want To Be! I Appreciate Everything @TonyKhan, But I’m More Than Willing To Walk Away If I Am Embarrassing You And Your Company. All I Can Say Is I’m Sorry!”

Flair has published the same post on Instagram and has seen multiple legends and Hall of Famers come to the defence of The Nature Boy. Steve Austin issued the following comment:

Ric, I enjoy watching you do all the things you do. And you’re always having fun. Keep doing you. And that’s the bottom line.

Fellow Hall of Famer Kevin Nash also defended longtime friend Flair, stating that there is a reason why the 16-time World Champion has been brought into AEW:

Besides the fact you have earned the right. You wouldn’t be there if it wasn’t drawing fans. You always bring a smile to my face. Go Michigan!

Fellow AEW Star Chris Jericho also commented on Flair’s address, reminding the Hall of Famer who he is:

Don’t listen to online assholes champ. You’re f*ckin Ric Flair. Do what you want. F*ck em…
