Iyo Sky Stuns SummerSlam Crowd To Win WWE Women’s Title

IYO SKY wins Money In The Bank

In a surprise twist, Iyo Sky has been crowned WWE Women’s Champion.

Asuka went into her title defence against Charlotte Flair and Bianca Belair with her back against the wall, but it was a woman not even in the match who left with the gold.

The Triple Threat Match between the long-time rivals was something of a slow burner but kicked into a ferocious gear after Belair took a nasty-looking bump to the outside. Belair had been favouring her knee earlier in the match, and it seemed that it would cost her a shot at the championship.

After crumpling to the floor, Belair was helped away from the ring by doctors and WWE officials, but it wasn’t long until she was back-breaking up a Figure Eight with a 450 Splash.

Despite the crowd being on her side, Belair quickly found herself in trouble. Flair took advantage of the injured knee and locked in the Figure Eight, leaving The EST on the brink of submitting. But the twists were only just beginning. Asuka got back in the ring, spitting mist in Flair’s face, however when she went to kick Belair, she was rolled up into a pin and Belair scored a remarkable win.

Iyo Sky Takes Advantage

Although she was understandably delighted, Belair’s celebrations were cut short by the arrival of Iyo Sky and the Money In The Bank briefcase. Sky came to the ring flanked by Bayley who decked both Flair and Asuka with the briefcase before Sky did a number on Belair.

With the new champion laying prone on the canvas, Sky confirmed the cash-in before hitting a Moonsault and grabbing the win to the delight of the Detroit crowd.

With Sky and Bayley celebrating in the ring, they were quickly joined by injured Damage CTRL teammate Dakota Kai. The trio then celebrated as the crowd roared their approval one year on from the group’s creation.

In recent news, Charlotte Flair has discussed a potential match between herself and Bianca Belair at WrestleMania 40.

Following on from the victory and still champion as of November 2023, Iyo Sky has hit a milestone while holding the WWE Championship.
