Rey Mysterio Signs New Deal With WWE; Contract Length Revealed

Rey Mysterio Signs New Deal With WWE

Rey Mysterio is the latest Superstar to be staying with WWE for the foreseeable future.

As 2024 draws nearer, multiple top stars are set to negotiate new deals over the next 12 months as many stars signed 5-year deals back in 2019 to prevent any potential negotiations with AEW.

The news of Mysterio’s new deal was first broken by Dave Meltzer on December 18th. More clarification on Mysterio’s deal was then provided on Wrestling Observer Radio, where it was stated that Mysterio was signed to a long-term deal, which would have been uncharacteristic of the promotion in the past given the former World Champion’s age:

Yes. Long term. You know, it is the thing that we’ve talked about where WWE is trying to lock people up for long-term deals. Rey might be under contract, I don’t know that it’s a five-year deal, I was told that it could be, which means Rey would be under contract until he’s 54 years old, that’s something [new] for WWE. I mean, years ago, the WWE of years ago would not have signed someone [that old].

Meltzer continued, stating that the new deal would be very lucrative for Mysterio, much like his previous offer to prevent him from negotiating with the competition:

I’m sure it’s giant money for Rey. Because when Rey came back. It was a big big money short-term deal, but it was short-term at his request. They went for it because he could have gone to AEW.

An update from Haus of Wrestling reveals that Mysterio’s new contract is a three year deal, and that despite his injuries, he plans to continue wrestling for the duration of his contract once he’s healed and ready to go.

Rey Mysterio is currently out of action as he recently underwent knee surgery.

Rey Mysterio’s Son Dominik Also Re-Signs New Deal

The news of the Hall of Famer signing a new deal was broken a few hours after another member of his family had also committed his services for the next few years, as WWE Raw star Dominik Mysterio will also be a part of the company for the next 5 years.

Also on the show, it appears that the Mysterios are the first of many to be offered big money deals before they reach free agency.
