Ex-WWE Star Recalls Scrapped Return Following Brock Lesnar Attack

Brock Lesnar once attacked a WWE Announcer so viciously that they never returned to the desk.

Prior to being a member of Retribution and the Maximum Male Models, Mace was known to WWE fans as Dio Maddin and provided commentary duties for Raw.

Being close to the action each week, Maddin was on the receiving end of a brutal F5 after standing up to Lesnar on an episode of Raw in 2019.

In the lead-up to Survivor Series, Lesnar and Heyman demanded the announce team tell them where Rey Mysterio was. As Maddin rose from the desk to try and calm down Lesnar, the announcer was driven through the announce table by The Beast. Selling the injuries sustained, the commentator was removed from the desk and never returned as an announcer, later reappearing in 2020 as a part of Retribution.

The former Mace took part in a Q and A on Reddit and was asked about the Lesnar attack on Raw. Mace answered that he was originally told that he would only be off of TV for one week, but this kept getting extended:

Ha. So when it happened they told me I’d just be back on commentary next week. Then they told me (as I was boarding a plane to the UK) that I would be selling it for a week. Then another. Then another. Then they said they were going in a new direction with the commentary team.

The day after the attack, Maddin posted a still of him confronting Lesnar on social media to seemingly set up a future showdown between the two wrestlers. Addressing the post, the former announcer revealed that there were early talks for a Lesnar match but these were scrapped as fans were not aware of his previous wrestling experience:

The tweet was me desperately trying to not get sent back to the PC like Mufasa falling to his death. Although as I understand it, a match was discussed, but Vince said it would be confusing to the audience because they didn’t know I wrestled. I was later told they changed directions because I was too big for commentary so I eagerly awaited my big push.

In the same Q and A, Maddin recalled Vince McMahon yelling at him over the headset while announcing an infamous match ending.

Brock Lesnar Not At Crown Jewel

With WWE set to host a big show in Saudi Arabia for the 10th time, this will be the first time that the former World Champion has not made the trip to the Kingdom. In a recent report, the real reason why Brock Lesnar will not be appearing at Crown Jewel has been revealed.
