Kevin Owens Reflects On “Bittersweet” SmackDown Switch

Kevin Owens makes entrance on WWE SmackDown

Kevin Owens is ready for any challenges his move to SmackDown brings.

On October 13th, Kevin Owens became part of the SmackDown roster as part of the trade that took Jey Uso to Raw back in September. KO marked his first night on the blue brand by giving a Stunner to Dominik Mysterio after being introduced by new SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis.

In a SmackDown exclusive, Owens was asked how he was planning to celebrate his move to SmackDown.

“Well, actually, it’s my mom’s birthday tomorrow. So I’m going to fly back to Canada and go spend the day with her, which is lovely. Without my mom, I wouldn’t be here, literally because she gave birth to me, but also her support throughout my career. I needed it. Without her, I wouldn’t be here. So it’s great to get to go celebrate my move to SmackDown by spending my mom’s birthday with her. So that’s it, really. Just gonna go home and spend some time with my mom,”

Owens’ move to Friday nights brings an end to his on-screen partnership with Sami Zayn. The former Universal Champion said leaving his friend behind was bittersweet.

“Actually, I would say it’s pretty close to that. She constantly tells me how annoying she thinks Dominik is. Really, really, really does not like Rhea as well. Rhea is always on my case. Although look, I’m on SmackDown now, so hopefully she won’t be around so much. But Dominik showed up for no reason today, so you never know. I’m actually surprised Rhea let him out of the house.

But anyway, look, I’m excited to be on SmackDown. It’s bittersweet. My tag team partner and friend Sami Zayn is still on Raw, so I think that effectively ends our partnership, for now anyway. So that’s kind of a hard one to take, but what can you do? I’m here on SmackDown. I’m gonna make the best of it,”

During the interview, Kevin Owens also sent a message of support to AEW star Adam Cole.

When Did Kevin Owens Start Teaming With Sami Zayn?

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn have a real-life friendship stretching back the best part of 20 years. Since first meeting on the independent scene, the pair have battled to incredible lengths, while also teaming up to great effect.

The pair started 2023 at odds with Zayn still fighting to be part of The Bloodline, but a reunion wasn’t far away. After previously refusing to come to the aid of Zayn after he broke away from Roman Reigns, the pair got back together on the March 17th episode of Raw.

The duo went on to win the Undisputed Tag Team Titles in the main event of WrestleMania 39 night one.
