Kevin Steen better known as Kevin Owens is a professional wrestler currently signed to WWE. Hailing from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, Canada he was born on May 7, 1984.

He began his wrestling career in 2000, training with Canadian wrestling legend Jacques Rougeau. He performed regularly for his and several other Canadian promotions over the next four years. He met El Generico (Sami Zayn) during this time, and they would take their friendship and feud all over the United States. Promotions such as IWS, CZW, PWG, and ROH all witnessed the matches that put both men on the map as two of the best performers in the industry.

During this period, Owens fought a who’s who of independent names. He crossed paths with everyone from Super Dragon, PAC, Steve Corino, Chris Hero, Adam Cole, and The Young Bucks, to name but a few. He regularly teamed with Zayn to win the PWG and ROH World Tag Team Championships. While they made great friends, they made even better enemies and feuded over the PWG World Championship, which Owens held three times and the ROH World Championship, which he held once.

In 2014, WWE announced they had signed Kevin Owens and his debut in NXT was met with much fanfare. He instantly reignited his rivalry with Zayn by first attacking him and then defeating him for the NXT Championship. As NXT Champion, he made a surprise appearance on Monday Night Raw, answering John Cena’s United States Championship open challenge. The ensuing feud saw Owens beat Cena in a non-title match at 2015’s Elimination Chamber. Although he eventually lost the feud with Cena, it established Owens as one of WWE’s fastest-rising Superstars.

Upon making his official main roster debut, he won the Intercontinental Championship twice before winning the vacant WWE Universal Championship in 2016. As champion, he successfully defended against Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. He struck up a friendship with Chris Jericho that inevitably turned into rivalry and cost him the title. A feud over the United States Championship followed and saw him capture the title at WrestleMania 33.

A brutal attack on Vince McMahon resulted in an intense feud with his son Shane. During the rivalry, Owens’ long-time rival, Zayn, came to his rescue, causing Shane to miss a death-defying leap from the top of the Hell in a Cell. The duo of Owens and Zayn continued to target McMahon leading to the team facing Shane and the returning Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 34.

After a layoff due to double knee surgery, Owens returned in early 2019 and, with Stone Cold Steve Austin’s permission, began using the Stunner as a finishing move. Following a one-night-only appearance at NXT TakeOver: WarGames, in which he joined Tommaso Ciampa’s team against the Undisputed Era, he entered a feud with Seth Rollins that culminated with a victory at WrestleMania 36.

Later that year, Kevin Owens challenged Roman Reign for the Universal Championship in a lengthy feud that featured TLC, Steel Cage and Last Man Standing matches. Following his unsuccessful quest for the title, Owens and Zayn took their legendary rivalry to WrestleMania 37. Owens defeated Zayn at the show before taking a brief hiatus from action. When he returned, he again entered the main event scene as part of the race for the WWE Championship. He was a part of the Fatal Five Way match at Day 1, but was unsuccessful.

Frustrated by another big loss, Owens announced that he was hosting “The KO Show” at WrestleMania 38 with the Texas Rattlesnake, Steve Austin invited as the special guest. In the lead-up to the event, Owens constantly ridiculed Austin and his home state of Texas. Austin accepted the invitation, and the two met in a main event segment that quickly turned into a No Holds Barred match, which Austin won. After his loss at WrestleMania, Owens returned as the Prizefighter and a surprise participant at Survivor Series WarGames, reigniting his rivalry with Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn again.
