CM Punk & Triple H in WWE

At WWE Survivor Series: WarGames CM Punk sent the Chicago crowd into a frenzy when he made a surprise appearance at the end of an action-packed show.

The event saw Becky Lynch pin Bayley to win the Women’s WarGames match for her team while Cody Rhodes claimed victory for his team in the men’s version. As the team, which included a returning Randy Orton, celebrated their victory Punk’s music blared out of the speakers to the roar of the crowd.

The fans went wild as Cult of Personality played and Punk made his first WWE appearance in nearly a decade. However, as the audience cheered, Seth Rollins was caught on camera vehemently objecting to Punk’s return and had to be held back by Michael Cole and Corey Graves.

While Rollins made his feelings perfectly clear another WWE Superstar was also reportedly unhappy and stormed out of the arena. According to PW Insider, Drew McIntyre left the Allstate Arena immediately after the match, but it is unknown if it had anything to do with Punk’s return.

CM Punk has a history of locker room tension

Punk has a history of creating tension behind the scenes and has been called a “locker room cancer” on more than one occasion. His recent AEW career was overshadowed by backstage altercations, which ultimately led to his contract being terminated by Tony Khan. This spotted record led many to believe that a WWE comeback was off the table. However, it is believed officials were willing to look past this and bring the polarizing star back into the fold.

The decision to bring Punk back was only known to a few and was a genuine surprise to many within the company. This has led to reports that the secrecy surrounding the situation may result in Triple H losing to trust of some members of the locker room.

According to Fightful Select, one top talent told them they understood why the return was kept a secret but may have caused some distrust backstage in doing so. But while the comeback may have irked some people, it has been previously reported, that Punk’s arrival is to make money and not drive anyone crazy.
