Randy Orton: 2022 Biography, Net Worth, Family, Income
Randal Keith Orton is one of the most successful superstars in the history of WWE with 14 World title reigns to his name, tying him with Triple H and only putting him behind John Cena and Ric Flair (who have 16 reigns each) on the all-time list.
Randy Orton is a third generation wrestler, following in the footsteps of his grandfather Bob Orton, uncle Barry Orton and father Bob Orton Jr. into the world of professional wrestling.
Initially signed by WWE in 2000, Orton was sent to developmental territory Ohio Valley Wrestling where he became a part of the illustrious OVW class of 2002 alongside the likes of John Cena, Dave Bautista and Brock Lesnar.
Shortly after making his WWE main roster debut in April 2002, Orton was side-lined by a shoulder injury. Upon his return, he joined fellow OVW classmate Batista as part of the Evolution stable, lead by Triple H alongside the legendary Ric Flair. Orton began to come into his own as part of Evolution, winning the Intercontinental Championship during this time, as well as feuding with the likes of Shawn Michaels and Mick Foley as part of his ‘Legend Killer’ gimmick.
At just 24 years of age, Orton became the youngest World Champion in WWE history after defeating Chris Benoit at SummerSlam 2004. Following his historic victory, Orton was kicked out of Evolution by Triple H and began feuding with his former mentor.
A brief babyface run followed, but Orton soon returned to his heel persona and feuded with The Undertaker through much of 2005 in one of the most famous rivalries of his career.
Following a short stint as a tag team wrestler alongside Edge as part of Rated-RKO, Orton began to show a more cold and sadistic side to his character, which earned him the nickname of ‘The Viper’. This new gimmick saw Orton really find his feet as a main event star and elevated him back into the World Title picture, where he has largely remained ever since.
Randy Orton established himself as a top star in the company in the late-2000s, leading his own faction in The Legacy, where he mentored young up-and-coming wrestlers such as Ted DiBiase Jr. and Cody Rhodes, while also enjoying a plethora of WWE World Title reigns. In more recent years the star found himself wrapped up in a now infamous feud with The Fiend Bray Wyatt. During their lengthy rivalry Orton suffered burns to his face, while he later set Wyatt on fire. All in storyline of course. The feud ended at WrestleMania 37 with victory for Orton.
The Viper later admitted that much of the storyline was “rough,” while Wyatt was also upset at the handling of their rivalry. Following Wyatt’s departure From WWE in July 2021 it was noted that these frustrations led to him having a strained relationship with Vince McMahon, which ultimately played a role in his exit.
The Apex Predator’s longevity in WWE is undeniable and he remains a major star in the company to this day, 20 years after his debut in the company.
