Chris Jericho: 2022 Biography, Net Worth, Family, Income
Chris Irvine better known as Chris Jericho was born on November 9, 1970, in Manhasset, New York and is a professional wrestler, singer, author and actor currently signed to AEW. Jericho is widely regarded as one the greatest wrestlers of all time due to his long list of classic matches, promos and feuds. His constant ability to reinvent himself throughout the decades has allowed him to create a legacy like non-other in the business.
Chris Jericho began training to be a wrestler at Hart Brothers’ School of Wrestling in 1990. Just two months later he made his in-ring debut for the Canadian Wrestling Connection. Over the next few years, Jericho took the global independent scene by storm. In 1991 he travelled to Japan and the infamous FMA where he fought the likes of Atsushi Onita, Riki Fuji and Tarzan Goto. In 1993 his travels took him to CMLL in Mexico where he performed as Corazon de Leon and won the NWA World Middleweight Title.
The following year he teamed with Lance Storm as The Thrillseekers in Jim Cornette’s promotion Smoky Mountain Wrestling. Another trip to Japan saw him wrestle in WAR where he won the WAR International Junior Heavyweight Championship and International Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship. His matches with Ultimo Dragon led to Paul Heyman bringing him to ECW in 1996. While in ECW he won the World Television Championship and wrestled ECW legends Taz, Sabu, Rob Van Dam, and Cactus Jack.
That same year WCW came calling and signed Chris Jericho to a contract. He entered the promotion’s Cruiserweight division feuding with Styx (X-Pac), Eddie Guerrero, Rey Mysterio and Juventud Guerrera winning the title a total of four times. While in WCW Jericho would begin to show the evolution of his character.
During a feud with Dean Malenko, known as the Man of a 1000 holds, Jericho proclaimed himself as the Man of a 1004 holds. In a memorable segment, Jericho would produce a lengthy sheet of paper and read out every single wrestling he knew. His character work made him of the promotion’s highlights but when he tried to goad World Heavyweight Champion, Goldberg into a match the champ legitimately thought he was beneath him and refused to face him.
In 1999, the WWF reached out to Jericho and after months of hints featuring a countdown clock to the millennium Y2J was born. Once in WWE he would challenge and win the Intercontinental and European Championships in feuds with Chyna, Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle.
In 2001 Chris Jericho entered the main event scene which led to him winning the WCW Championship at No Mercy when he pinned The Rock. At Vengeance, Jericho then defeated both The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin on the same night to become the first-ever Undisputed WWE Champion.
Two years later Jericho would win the IC title for a record-breaking seventh time before losing a “You’re fired” match to John Cena in 2005 and leaving WWE for two years. He returned in 2007 and entered a memorable feud with Shawn Michaels. A year later he won the World Heavyweight Championship twice. His ninth Intercontinental Champion reign and fourth run as Tag Team Champion followed in 2009 before his third and final WWE World Championship in 2010.
The next few years saw him focus on his band Fozzy and acting gigs only appearing sporadically in WWE. Each time he returned he added new aspects to his character, keeping him fresh and relevant. In 2016 he re-signed with WWE full-time and began working with the new generation of Superstars like AJ Styles, Kevin Owens, Dean Ambrose, Sami Zayn and Roman Reigns. The following year he would win his final WWE Title when he captured the United States Championship.
That same year he shocked the wrestling world when he appeared in NJPW challenging Kenny Omega to a match at Wrestle Kingdom 12 in Tokyo Dome. Omega accepted making it Chris Jericho’s first match outside of WWE since 1999. He remained at the Japanese promotion throughout the year winning the IWGP Intercontinental Championship plus having matches with Kazuchika Okada and Hiroshi Tanahashi during his time there.
His rivalry with Omega continued outside of NJPW with Jericho attacking him at All In, then to a match on his Rock ‘N’ Wrestling Rager at Sea and eventually All Elite Wrestling. In 2019 along with Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks and Adam Hangman Page, Omega introduced AEW to the world. At the press conference, Chris Jericho revealed himself to be part of the new promotion and at the inaugural pay-per-view Double or Nothing, he defeated Omega.
Chris Jericho was crowned AEW’s first-ever World Champion at the following pay-per-view All Out and then on the premier episode of Dynamite, he created a new faction called the Inner Circle. Since then Jericho has gone on to be a focal point of the promotion being involved in the majority of top angles in rivalries with its top stars such as Cody Rhodes, Hangman Page, Eddie Kingston and MJF.
Throughout his AEW tenure, he has continued to establish himself as one of the industry’s most creative and inventive performers. In 2022 he won the Ring of Honor World Championship and becomes the first star to have held the ROH, AEW, WWE, and WCW World Championships.
