WWE Offering Big Money To Re-Sign Superstars: “They Don’t Want Free Agents”

WWE Money

WWE are doing all they can to lock down top stars to new deals.

Much like in 2019, the promotion does not want to see stars be tempted by rival promotion AEW, which also has the financial capability of offering big salaries with the added bonus of fewer dates. While the future of stars such as Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre is still uncertain, WWE has secured two top stars for the next few years.

On December 18th it was reported that Rey and Dominik Mysterio have each signed new multi-year deals before their current contracts have expired. According to a new report, the Hall of Famer and former North American Champion’s deals may set the trend for the foreseeable future.

As reported on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer stated that multiple stars are expected to be approached with lucrative offers before their contracts expire as they don’t want anyone to be without a contract:

[WWE] are obviously very happy because they signed both of them. Both of them could have waited until free agency, and at that point, they could have gotten probably a giant offer from AEW and a giant offer from WWE. But obviously, WWE really made it worth their while. What I was told is that they were looking at longtime deals with greatly increased compensation for the guys because they don’t want free agents right now,”

Crucially, if a wrestler is without a contract then WWE can lose control in more ways than one. Not only can the talent begin conversations with AEW at this point, but there is no non-compete clause in effect if a contract expires.

WWE Prepares For Huge 2024

The promotion looks to be making next year a historic one in many ways. This will be the full first year that the company is under Endeavor ownership and WrestleMania will reach a milestone in April with the 40th iteration of the event presented. Kicking off the year strong, the first WWE Raw of 2024 already had multiple big matches announced.
