Sami Callihan shed light on the reason Ronda Rousey is returning to the squared circle once again.

After losing to Shayna Baszler at SummerSlam in Detroit, MI, the star appeared to hang up her wrestling boots, even teasing that she was retired.

However, on October 26th, Ronda Rousey made a surprise appearance at a Lucha VaVOOM event, teaming with longtime friend and fellow Horsewoman Marina Shafir to defeat the team of Taya Valkyrie and Brian Kendrick.

Days later, it was announced that Rousey would be wrestling at an upcoming Wrestling REVOLVER show on November 16th, once again teaming with Shafir. The duo’s opponents have yet to be announced.

“Ronda Rousey Wanted To Do This For Charity” – Sami Callihan

Speaking on a recent edition of Busted Open Radio, Wrestling REVOLVER owner Sami Callihan shed light on Rousey’s upcoming appearance, first explaining that the ability to have her on the show was a fortunate happenstance.

“I fell into that one. I’m not going to take credit for that, that it’s some mastermind plan that I went, ‘this is going to be the thing, we’re going to run LA on two and a half weeks notice.’ It’s something that I fell into because my relationships with other people and people putting myself over to Ronda, ‘This is the guy you want to work with.'”

Continuing, Callihan revealed that Rousey herself wanted to do something for charity after the devastating wildfires in Hawai’i.

“Ronda wanted to do this for charity. She wants to do something for the Hawaiian relief fund, her husband is from Hawai’i, this is a charity she holds near and dear to her heart. As soon as she brought it up to me, I said, ‘Absolutely, this is 100% something I want to be involved with’ because the money will actually go to help people.

“Every cent we make on ticket sales after production is paid off, every cent is given to charity. A lot of people working the show have said, ‘give my money to charity.’ We’re sending the money directly to families in need.”
