Jim Ross Applauds Wrestling Icons’ Epic Career-Defining Match

Jim Ross Applauds Wrestling Icons' Epic Career-Defining Match

WWE Hall of Famer and current AEW on-air broadcaster Jim Ross recently revealed that his favourite match to commentate on throughout his illustrious career was the Triple Threat Ladder Match at WrestleMania 2000.

Jim Ross, speaking on his Grilling JR podcast, expressed his emotional connection to the match, which involved the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge and Christian competing for the WWE Tag Team Championships.

Ross had a personal investment in all the wrestlers involved, having played a role in hiring the Dudley Boyz. He praised their unique personalities and praised Bubba Ray Dudley for his exceptional booking skills. Ross also commended Edge, Christian, Matt Hardy, and Jeff Hardy for their creative ideas and the intense build-up to the match.

I had an emotional investment in all of those guys. I hired the Dudleys. They were interesting to work with. Bubba’s got a great booking mind, and so between him, Edge and Christian, especially Matt Hardy — and Jeff to a little lesser degree — all had ideas. They had seen this match that was booked in their heads for years, and in the last several months, it intensified amazingly.

The match itself was a high-risk affair, with the competitors taking daring chances that could make or break their careers. However, they flawlessly executed their moves, leaving Ross in awe. The Dudley Boyz entered the match as the champions, but it was Edge and Christian who emerged as the new Tag Team Champions. They capitalised on a momentary distraction to push Matt Hardy off a ladder and claim the coveted title belts.

The last thing you want is a bunch of botched spots, and they didn’t have any. That was the damnedest thing I think I’d ever seen.

Ross expressed his immense enjoyment in calling the match, as it provided the wrestlers with a long-awaited opportunity to showcase their skills.

I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed calling a match any more than that one because these guys are finally getting a chance.
