Seth Rollins wants the World Heavyweight Title to have a bigger identity than the initial impressions that fans and the media are putting on the new gold.
Rollins is the inaugural World Heavyweight Champion after successfully defeating AJ Styles at Night Of Champions in Saudi Arabia, but with those two names being the ones to compete for the title the first thought is that the gold will be known as the “working man’s” championship, much like the Intercontinental Championship was known for during the 80s and 90s. Speaking to Mark Andrews, Rollins didn’t want to pigeon-hole an identity on his newly acquired hardware.
“I think just kind of calling it the work-rate title is a little bit underselling it. At the end of the day, the title exists because our roster is so chock full of talent. There’s just too much to have one champion that’s not around very much, and so I think the fact that we had so many worthy contenders, people that could hold this championship, I think that is the reason the title exists.

Much like the fans themselves, Rollins doesn’t want his World Title to feel like an afterthought and states that an effort is and will be made to make the World Heavyweight Title something significant in the industry.
We’re just selling out left and right, and we need to have a World Heavyweight Champion on the men’s side to represent that level of competition. So I think we’re going to put in the work to build this title to be as big as any championship in wrestling. We’re not naive and think that we don’t need to put that work. We know that it needs to happen. But we’ve got the roster, and the guys and the crew who are willing to put in the time to make it feel as big as it is.”
Rollins defeated Damian Priest this past Monday on “Raw” and now has a potential new challenger in the wings with Bron Breakker.
