Chris Jericho Addresses The Possibility Of Teaming With Paul Wight Again In AEW

Will Chris Jericho and Paul Wight reunite in the near future?

Wight returned to action on November 15th as part of the Like A Dragon Gaiden Street Fight, where The World’s Largest Athlete, Jericho, Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi defeated Konosuke Takeshita, Brian Cage, Kyle Fletcher and Powerhouse Hobbs. On a recent episode of Talk is Jericho, the first-ever AEW World Champion gave some insight into the making of the Sega-sponsored bout.

Explaining why the decision was made to include Wight in the match, Jericho compared it to getting attacked in the playground and finding someone bigger to take out the threat:

I thought after the Hobbs thing where he basically squashed me for seven minutes to beat the hell out of me. I thought, Oh, if you get beat up on a playground, what do you do? You know, try to avenge your loss yourself? You bring in your little buddy? Or do you bring in like the biggest guy you know your big brother or like you know, My Bodyguard that 1983 classic with Chris Makepeace.

And I just thought if Hobbs is so big and so bad, who can I bring in that’s on the roster under contract that we haven’t done much with, and that’d be Paul Wight, you know, and a lot of people were like, Ah, it’s Paul Wight.

Jericho stated that the return match for Wight was a one-off and although they won’t team together again, Wight has plans for future matches:

It was a one shot thing for Paul to come back. Be the big man who is bigger than Hobbs. And then, you know, he has other ideas of things he wants to do, and I just thought it was perfect.

In the Street Fight, Wight never got in the ring. Instead, the 7-foot giant was seen on the entrance ramp at the start of the match before brawling to the back with Hobbs. As cameras caught up with Hobbs and Wight in the parking lot, the former TNT Champion took Wight out by slamming him onto the roof of a car.

With 6 matches in AEW across pay-per-view, TV and the discontinued Dark YouTube show, Wight remains undefeated in the promotion.

Chris Jericho Scores Big Win Overseas

Still making history in 2023, Jericho recently competed in his first-ever match for the Japanese promotion DDT Wrestling. Facing Takeshita one-on-one, Chris Jericho picked up the victory in his debut performance for the promotion.
