SummerSlam Was “Farewell At Least For Now” For Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey doesn’t have a WWE return date.

At SummerSlam, Ronda Rousey took on Shayna Baszler in a MMA rules match as the real-life friends looked to end their heated on-screen rivalry. In the end, it was Baszler who scored a decisive win, choking out her rival.

The match also played out against a backdrop of major speculation about Rousey’s WWE future. The star has been widely criticised during her second run with the company which began at the 2022 Royal Rumble and it was believed that a loss to Baszler would open the door for her to walk away.

Reporting in the Wrestling Observer Sunday Update, Dave Meltzer noted that Rousey is done with WWE, at least for now.

“For Ronda Rousey, that was her farewell at least for now. She’s not expected back at any specific date and that’s why she did that finish with Shayna Baszler where she got choked out.”

Does Shayna Baszler Think Ronda Rousey Is Leaving WWE?

Despite the former UFC megastar stepping away from the ring, Shayna Baszler tipped Ronda Rousey to return. Speaking to Inside The Ropes ahead of the match in Detroit, Baszler said the clash wouldn’t be the last time fans see her rival in WWE.

“I know Ronda better than anyone, it’s not the last that we will see of her. Whether it’s next week or next year, it is not the last that we will see of her. We’ll see what happens.”

During her time with WWE, Rousey has won Women’s Championship gold three times, as well as the Tag Team Titles and 2022 Women’s Royal Rumble.

Shayna Baszler, who defeated Ronda Rousey in her final WWE match, believes that the former star deserves more credit than she gets.
