The latest edition of AEW Collision saw several huge matches added to the card for WrestleDream, a show Tony Khan has promised will mark the beginning of a “new era” for the company.
Matches already announced for the event included Bryan Danielson facing Zack Sabre Jr. to determine the best technical wrestler in the world today, FTR defending their AEW Tag Team Championships against Aussie Open, and ‘Hangman’ Adam Page taking on Swerve Strickland.
WrestleDream is being held in tribute to the late Antonio Inoki, and Eddie Kingston wants a match that will honour the Japanese icon. To that end, he will defend both his NJPW STRONG and ROH World Championships against the current ROH Pure Champion Katsuyori Shibata.
Don Callis added to the card when he announced that his Family members Konosuke Takeshita, Sammy Guevara, and Will Ospreay will take on the team of Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi, and Chris Jericho. The bout will be a warm-up for Jericho as he prepares to face Takeshita in a singles match at DDT’s Ultimate Party event in Japan in November.
The TBS Championship will also be on the line as Julia Hart, who has been undefeated in 2023, has challenged Kris Statlander for the title.
Meanwhile, TNT Champion Christian Cage is set to defend his newly won title against Darby Allin. The pair will attempt to settle their long-running rivalry in a 2 Out Of 3 Falls match on the show.
Finally, a Four-Way Tag Team match has been announced featuring The Young Bucks, Hook & Orange Cassidy, The Lucha Bros, and The Gunns. The winner of that bout will be able to challenge the Tag Team Champions at any time.
