CM Punk On “Best Behavior” At WWE Raw; Could Be Due To Interesting Contract Clause

CM Punk high fives a fan at WWE Raw

According to a new report, CM Punk’s WWE contract could contain a clause that ensures continued good behavior.

Ahead of the September 2nd episode of Collision, Tony Khan announced in front of a Chicago crowd that CM Punk had been fired from AEW with cause as a result of an investigation into his backstage altercation with Jack Perry at the previous weekend’s All In. This was not the first time Punk had been involved in a backstage fight during his time with the company, famously brawling with The Elite following the 2022 edition of All Out.

At Survivor Series on November 25th, CM Punk made a shocking return to WWE for the first time since his acrimonious 2014 exit. Seth Rollins was visibly upset during his return, though his outburst is reportedly part of an angle to set up a feud between the two men.

Despite reports that Punk’s WWE comeback left numerous talent upset, the star’s demeanor at Monday Night Raw on November 27th was reportedly pleasant and he left a good impression on people backstage.

According to a new report from Fightful Select, some people within WWE were told by higher ups that Punk has a behavior clause in his new contract, though this information has not been confirmed. Fightful Select also notes that Punk was on his “best behavior” at the event, even taking photos with some fans backstage.

With CM Punk still a big topic in the wrestling world, one name in AEW is very happy about the move.

What Did CM Punk Say During His WWE Raw Return?

Receiving a warm welcome when “Cult of Personality” hit in the main event segment of the show, Punk grabbed a microphone and joked that hell froze over before saying 2 words that many had waited 10 years to hear, “I’m home.” Punk doubled down and thanked the fans who never forgot him even though there was a time when he wanted to forget himself.

Referencing his departure, Punk stated how “a wise man” told him that he needed to leave in order to come back. The former World Champion then discussed how he was welcomed backstage, with many asking about his wife AJ Lee, who Punk says sends her regards.

Revealing why he is back in WWE, Punk described how some of those who think they are the best in the ring, on the mic and behind the commentary desk are now afraid as the true Best in the World is back.

Just before the show went off the air, Punk delivered the line “I’m not here to make friends, I’m here to make money” directly to the camera. Crucially, there were no zingers or subtle references to anyone in AEW throughout the promo, with many feeling that the segment was tame by comparison to previous appearances.

CM Punk’s return, along with that of Randy Orton, proved a huge ratings boost for the November 27th episode of Raw.
