WWE SmackDown Ratings Drop One Week After Season Premiere

WWE Superstars Logan Paul and Rey Mysterio shake hands inside a SmackDown ring.

WWE SmackDown was unable to capitalise on the strong viewership from the season premiere episode.

As reported by Wrestlenomics, an average of 2.254 million people watched the October 20th episode, also drawing an 18-49 rating of 0.59. Compared to the season premiere on October 13th, which drew an average audience of 2.417 million, the drop in viewers calculates to approximately 6.7%. The key demographic rating also saw a dip as the October 13th show obtained a rating of 0.62.

A drop in viewers was likely expected as WWE loaded up the season premiere to make it a must-see episode of TV. On top of the return of Roman Reigns, the October 13th episode advertised a major announcement by Triple H, which saw Nick Aldis make his onscreen debut and be announced as the SmackDown General Manager.

WWE SmackDown Continues The Build To Crown Jewel

A few hours before the show went on the air it was announced that Roman Reigns would be defending the Undisputed Championship at Crown Jewel. The show opened with LA Knight coming face to face with Paul Heyman and guaranteeing that he would defeat Reigns and walk out of Crown Jewel as the new champion.

The main event saw Charlotte Flair challenge Iyo Sky for the Women’s Championship following a controversial match finish at Fastlane. The Queen would lose the title match following repeated interference from Damage CTRL. A post-match beatdown would begin which saw Bianca Belair make her return to TV after a two-month hiatus and come to the aid of Flair.
