Bobby Lashley Shockingly Crowned New WWE Champion At Royal Rumble

Bobby Lashley wins WWE Champion at the Royal Rumble

After interference from Roman Reigns, Bobby Lashley shockingly defeated Brock Lesnar to become the new WWE Champion!

The tension between former Bobby Lashley and Brock Lesnar has been building for weeks on Monday Night Raw after Brock Lesnar was inserted into the WWE Championship match at Day 1 and became the new champion by pinning Big E.

Near the end of the match, Roman Reigns – fresh off his retaining his Universal Championship after defeating Seth Rollins in the opening match of the show – made an appearance and interfered. Despite having publicly fired Paul Heyman as Special Counsel to the Tribal Chief on the December 17th episode of SmackDown, it seems that Heyman has made his choice to no longer advocate for the Beast Incarnate as he handed a title belt to Roman Reigns, who hit Brock Lesnar over the head with it to secure the victory for Bobby Lashley.

This latest development seems to bolster rumors that Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns will face off at WrestleMania 38. There had been some speculation that WWE was planning to unify the WWE and Universal Championships at the event, but Bobby Lashley becoming the new champion supports recent reports that title unification was not in WWE’s plans.

Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar were previously set to face off at WWE Day 1, but those plans were thwarted when Roman Reigns tested positive for COVID-19 hours before the Premium Live Event was to begin. Multiple changes were made to the show, the most notable being that Brock Lesnar was inserted into the WWE Championship match and shockingly won the title in the main event.

Bobby Lashley also recently spoke about why he thought he “scared” Brock Lesnar ahead of their confrontation.
