A new report has given a huge update on the long-rumoured showdown between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 38.
While it has long been thought that Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns will lock horns at AT&T Stadium in April, the route to get there has recently become more than a little unclear.
With Roman Reigns unable to compete at WWE Day 1 on January 1st, Brock Lesnar was switched into the Fatal-Four-Way match for the WWE Championship. When all was said and done, it was Lesnar who was somewhat surprisingly left holding the title as the show went off the air.
This naturally led fans to wonder whether a huge ‘Title vs. Title’ match could now be on the cards for the spectacular, presuming both men successfully defend their versions of the World Championship at the Royal Rumble. This speculation then went into overdrive as Lesnar challenged Reigns on a recent episode of SmackDown, although the Tribal Chief declined the offer.
However, a new report has now claimed that there are no plans for a potential match between the two stars to involve their titles. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer commented that while there will be a match between the two, it will be a little different to what fans are expecting.
“I was told no. That they just did it because those two guys had the belt at the time. So it made sense to do it at the time. But, at the time, that was not the direction that they were planning on…Lesnar and Reigns are going to have a match. I think we’ll have a lot better idea of what’s gonna happen after the Royal Rumble. But, if Seth wins and then Lesnar’s wrestling Roman, I would presume Roman beats him to win a belt back. Because Lesnar’s not going to be around long-term and Roman will be around every week,”
Shifting his attention to Seth Rollins, Meltzer explained that the situation regarding the former Shield star is much more uncertain.
“And then Rollins, I don’t know what their plans are as far as how long he would go long-term. They could have Big E beat him or they could just keep Seth going. They could have Lashley or… Kevin Owens. I mean there’s a lot of different ways they can go,”
At the Royal Rumble it has been confirmed that Brock Lesnar will defend his WWE Championship against former champion Bobby Lashley. While Roman Reigns will defend the Universal Championship against Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins. On the most recent episode of Monday Night Raw, Rollins confirmed that he will remain on the red brand even if he beats Reigns for what is currently SmackDown’s top title.
