Matt Hardy Compares Eddie Kingston To Mick Foley

Matt Hardy has some high praise for Eddie Kingston.

During the 1990s Mick Foley became one of the most popular stars in WWE despite, by his own admission, being less athletically gifted than those around him. However, Foley had a relatability, everyman quality, and willingness to go above and beyond that made him stand out against the likes of The Rock, Steve Austin, The Undertaker, Triple H, and more.

Despite this, Foley had to fight incredibly hard to get noticed, and Vince McMahon famously only hired Foley to show Jim Ross what it would be like to get his heart broken by a talent.

Speaking on the Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the tag team legend said he sees similar qualities in Eddie Kingston. Hardy explained that despite not looking like a “typical” pro wrestler, he has a natural charisma you can’t teach.

“It’s huge for Eddie Kingston. It’s truly in his backyard. He very much reminds me of a Mick Foley type persona. He’s this guy that doesn’t have the typical look of a pro wrestler and doesn’t act or perform like a typical pro wrestler. He’s really rough around the edges, but there’s just a charisma about him in his personality and the way he presents himself that just draws people to him.

Eddie Kingston is one of the guys who defied the odds, much like Mick Foley defied the odds. I think you’ve got a lot of goals Eddie Kingston wants to achieve that you’re going to see him achieve in the future,”

Eddie Kingston Heading For Grudge Match At AEW Grand Slam

Eddie Kingston stands on the brink of arguably the biggest match of his career. At Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York, Kingston will put his NJPW STONG Openweight Title on the line against Claudio Castagnoli, who will also put his ROH World Title up for grabs. The pair have a rivalry stretching back more than 15 years, and proud New Yorker Kingston will be looking to score a huge win.

Following on from Tony Khan’s controversial social media activity, Matt Hardy has given his perspective on the matter.
