Mick Foley: 2023 Biography, Net Worth, Family, Income

Mick Foley, born on June 7, 1965, is an American retired professional wrestler and author, who gained immense popularity during the 1990s and early 2000s for his extreme style of wrestling. He has had an incredible career in the world of professional wrestling, performing under various ring names including Cactus Jack, Mankind, and Dude Love. Throughout his career, he has entertained audiences with his distinctive character and captivating in-ring performances.

Foley was born in Bloomington, Indiana, and grew up in East Setauket, New York. He was a fan of professional wrestling from an early age, and his love for the sport grew even stronger after watching his first live wrestling event at the age of 12. In high school, he began training as a wrestler and eventually made his in-ring debut in 1983. He started out working for small independent promotions but quickly made a name for himself with his unique style of hardcore wrestling.

Foley soon caught the attention of World Championship Wrestling (WCW), which was one of the largest wrestling promotions at the time. Following a short stint, Foley made his full-time WCW debut in 1991, performing as the heel character, Cactus Jack. He quickly became a fan favourite due to his high-flying and dangerous stunts and was soon involved in some of the most memorable matches in WCW history. None more memorable than a match in Germany with Vader where a planned spot where Jack was caught in between the ring ropes went wrong and ended up losing part of his ear.

The New York native then had a memorable time in ECW. Foley made his way to the Philadelphia-based promotion and quickly made a name for himself with his hardcore and high-risk style. Foley wrestled in ECW and Japan’s IWA engaging in some of the most brutal matches in wrestling at the time, including his famous “King of the Deathmatch” tournament in 1995, where he faced Terry Funk in a barbed-wire match.

Foley’s mic skills and character work were also on full display in ECW, as he cut scathing promos and developed his what he would end up using for his Mankind persona. Foley’s time in ECW helped establish him as one of the top stars in the wrestling world and set the stage for his future success in the WWE.

In 1996, Foley joined the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), now known as World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). He made his debut as Mankind, a mysterious, mask-wearing character who was known for his sadistic and unpredictable nature. His initial rivalry with The Undertaker propelled him into a top-level act within months as he amassed multiple wins over The Deadman. He quickly became one of the most popular characters in the WWF and was involved in some of the company’s most memorable moments.

After bringing his other personas Cactus Jack and Dude Love into the WWF, Foley engaged in some of the most memorable matches in WWF history, including his brutal Hell in a Cell match with Undertaker at King of the Ring 1998, which saw Foley thrown off the top of the 16-foot cell and through a table leaving him with multiple injuries.

He won his first WWF Championship in 1999, defeating The Rock in a brutal “I Quit” match. After becoming a three-time WWF Champion that year, Foley started to wind down his career and put over up-and-coming headliner Triple H in early 2000.

After retiring in 2000, Foley would make multiple returns to feud with Randy Orton, Edge, and Ric Flair throughout the mid-2000s. A disagreement with the WWE in 2008 saw the Hardcore Legend head to TNA for a largely forgettable run.

Foley’s hardcore style of wrestling, as well as his unique and entertaining characters, made him a beloved figure among wrestling fans. He retired from in-ring competition in 2012, but still remains an active figure in the wrestling world. He has written several books about his life and career, including his memoir “Have a Nice Day!: A Tale of Blood and Sweatsocks,” which was a New York Times bestseller.

In addition to his in-ring success, Foley has also made several appearances in film and television. He has appeared in several movies, including “Beyond the Mat” and “Scary Movie 2,” and has made several guest appearances on television shows, including “30 Rock” and “Royal Pains.” He has also been a commentator and analyst for various wrestling promotions and has been inducted into several Hall of Fames, including the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013.
