Sonya Deville “Will Be Lucky” To Return In Six Months

Chelsea Green & Sonya Deville

Sonya Deville is facing a number of months out of the ring.

On August 7th, Sonya Deville confirmed she’s torn the ACL in her left knee and will be undergoing surgery. The news comes as a huge blow for the star who had only won the Women’s Tag Team Titles alongside Chelsea Green 21 days earlier.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer offered an update on Deville’s recovery, noting that the star will likely be out for around seven or eight months.

“A couple of weeks after winning it, her first championship in WWE, she blows out her knee. She has not had a serious injury in her entire time in WWE, and now the injury is going to put her out. Reconstructive surgery is Tuesday, that’s usually a 7 or 8 month process, 6 if you are lucky, but 7 or 8 months. They are going to have to change plans for that tag team title, come up with new plans and the whole bit.”

When Did Sonya Deville Get Injured?

Sonya Deville is believed to have suffered the injury on the July 28th episode of SmackDown when she teamed with Green to take on Charlotte Flair and Bianca Belair.

While the injury is bad news for Deville, it’s also more bad news for WWE. Deville and Green only won the Women’s Tag Team Titles following reports of an injury to Liv Morgan. It’s only recently been reported that Roman Reigns, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, and Rey Mysterio are all struggling with injuries. Long-term absentee Braun Strowman also remains some way short of a return to the ring, and Big E may not return at all.
