WWE SmackDown Results – August 18, 2023

This week’s WWE SmackDown celebration of Edge’s 25-year run in WWE as the Rated R Superstar battled Sheamus and LA Knight was in action against Austin Theory.

Friday Night SmackDown took place from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto where they celebrated 25 Years of Edge in WWE. The commentary team was Michael Cole, Corey Graves & Kevin Patrick.

Grayson Waller hosted his Grayson Waller Effect talk show with new US Champion Rey Mysterio & Santos Escobar, who had a knee brace on. Waller tried to instigate problems between Rey & Santos, but Santos said it was Austin Theory’s fault. Theory showed up with a promo saying he was the greatest US Champion ever and he wanted his title back. LA Knight and Adam Pearce arrived. Knight challenged Theory to a match where the winner gets a US Title match. Pearce made it official.

Match #1:Austin Theory defeated LA Knight. – The Miz was on commentary. Knight was distracted by Miz, he chased Miz around the ring and into the ring with Knight clotheslining Miz out of the ring. Theory did a rollup while grabbing Knight’s tights for the pinfall win.

The win by Austin Theory means he’ll get a shot at Rey Mysterio’s US Title.

There were video messages from WWE superstars talking about Edge. There were comments from John Cena, Sheamus, Natalya, The Miz, Charlotte Flair and Sami Zayn (talking about how Adam is as a person). They all thanked Edge.

A tribute video aired about Edge’s incredible 25-year career in WWE. There were comments from some of Edge’s greatest allies and rivals in his career. It was an excellent video that lasted about four minutes.

Match #2:Bianca Belair & Charlotte Flair defeated IYO SKY & Bayley (w/Dakota Kai) – Belair pinned Bayley with the Kiss of Death (KOD) slam.

There were more comments from superstars paying tribute to Edge. The comments were from Cody Rhodes, AJ Styles, Dolph Ziggler, Kevin Owens, Becky Lynch, Bobby Lashley, Ricochet, Rey Mysterio and Kurt Angle.

Bianca Belair was about to be interviewed, but Damage CTRL attacked her. Bayley put a chair on Belair’s left leg and WWE Women’s Champion IYO SKY smashed a chair on Belair’s left leg.

Match #3: The Street Profits – Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins defeated The OC’s Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows (w/Michin) – Dawkins and Ford did a Powerbomb/neckbreaker combo move on Anderson for the pinfall win. Bobby Lashley arrived in a suit and hugged Ford/Dawkins to congratulate them on the victory.

A video package aired about The Bloodline saga from last week. Jimmy Uso beat up Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa & Jimmy Uso. After that, Jey Uso said he was quitting WWE.

Paul Heyman was interviewed by Kayla Braxton, who wanted to know what was next for The Bloodline. Heyman didn’t give her much, but then Heyman got a phone call. Heyman revealed Jimmy Uso will be on Smackdown next week.

Match #4:Edge defeated Sheamus with a Spear. – It was a three-segment match that went nearly 20 minutes with many nearfalls throughout the match. Edge kicked out of a Brogue Kick and Sheamus kicked out of a Spear. A second Spear by Edge got the win.

After the match, Edge waved at his wife Beth Phoenix and their two daughters Ruby & Lyric in the front row. Edge hugged Sheamus to end the show.
