A24’s “The Iron Claw” Star Unsure If He Could Get In The Ring For Real

The Iron Claw featuring Zac Efron as Kevin Von Erich The Von Erichs

The Iron Claw star Jeremy Allen White isn’t sure how he would fare inside the squared circle.

The Von Erichs are one of the most famous families in wrestling history, but their story is fraught with tragedy. Following the sudden passing of David Von Erich at the young age of 25, his brothers Mike, Kerry, and Chris all ended up taking their own lives. Family patriarch and World Class Championship Wrestling promoter Fritz Von Erich passed away from brain and lung cancer at the age of 68. Of the brothers, only Kevin survives.

The Iron Claw stars Zac Efron as Kevin Von Erich, and also features Holt McCallany as Fritz Von Erich, Harris Dickinson as David Von Erich, and Aaron Dean Eisenberg as The Nature Boy Ric Flair.

Jeremy Allen White, who recently found great success as part of FX’s The Bear, plays the role of Kerry Von Erich, and despite portraying a star with so much success inside a wrestling ring, White isn’t sure he could get in the ring for real. While signing autographs, the star told TMZ:

“Getting into it for real? I don’t know. I don’t know if I’m capable.”

When he was asked if he’d learned anything during his training for the film, White had this to say:

“I think I learned a little bit.”

How Does Kevin Von Erich Feel About The Iron Claw?

While he wasn’t directly involved in the film, Kevin Von Erich was present at the premiere of The Iron Claw, and he had high praise for the movie as well as Zac Efron’s portrayal of him. However, according to Triple H, WWE Hall of Famer Michael Hayes was upset to be portrayed in the film without giving permission.

Kevin, Marshall and Ross Von Erich have all been announced to appear on an upcoming episode of AEW Dynamite.
