Rey Mysterio Names His Mount Rushmore Of WWE

Rey Mysterio has named who he thinks are the four most significant names in WWE history.

Rightfully deserving of the honour in his own right, Mysterio was tasked with choosing which legends would be etched in history while appearing as a guest on The MMA Hour. The United States Champion chose his greatest-ever rival, an Olympic hero and two of the most recognisable stars in wrestling history as his choices:

“I have to throw Eddie in there because without Eddie, this whole growth of Lucha Libre would probably be different. You know, even when Mil Mascaras was part of WWE, it was big, but it didn’t expand and I wish it would have. So Eddie kind of just opened the doors for all of us. So I said Hogan, Flair, Eddie, and if I personally have to throw another one, I love the Rock and I love Stone Cold, but I would throw Kurt Angle in there too.”

Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero teamed together and feuded throughout their respective careers in WCW and WWE. The Halloween Havoc 1997 match between Mysterio and Guerrero is regarded as one of the best matches in the history of WCW. Rekindling their rivalry in WWE, the two former World Champions were part of one of the company’s more infamous storylines in 2005 when the matter of who was Dominik Mysterio’s father was called into question.

Mysterio and Kurt Angle also had multiple classic matches against each other, with their SummerSlam 2002 opener being a notable highlight.

The topic of wrestling Mount Rushmores is frequently asked of past and present performers in interviews. Recently, Hulk Hogan named which 4 names he would have on his Mount Rushmore.

When Will Rey Mysterio Retire

During the same interview, the Hall of Famer was asked if he had considered winding down his in-ring career which spans more than 30 years. The current United States Champion revealed that he aims to stop wrestling within the next 2 years at the very most.
