Current Champion Plans To Retire From WWE In 1-2 Years

Rey Mysterio is looking at winding down his wrestling career in the near future.

Regarded as the greatest masked wrestler of all time, Mysterio has surpassed all expectations in his wrestling career and has crossed over pretty much every accolade there is to accomplish in wrestling. With Mysterio still looking great in the ring and showing no signs of slowing down, when will the Hall of Famer have his final match?

Appearing on The MMA Hour, the United States Champion was asked when he intends to retire. Mysterio responded that the goal is for it to be in 2025 at the latest:

“I’m hoping that it can be within the next year and a half or two, maybe.”

If this is the case, the master of the 619 would have had an in-ring career spanning over 35 years.

Rey Mysterio Discusses The Rise Of His Son In WWE

Despite a lengthy in-ring career, Mysterio remained a babyface throughout his multiple runs in WWE, meaning that he never got the loud negative reactions that Dominik Mysterio receives each week. During the same interview, Mysterio commented on how much his son has developed in the past 12 months:

“I’m a SmackDown guy, so Mondays I’m home. I’ll sit down with my wife and watch RAW together and we see our son come out and we see the connection he has with the fans. It’s mind blowing, and to see his growth week after week after week for the past year and a couple of months since he did the turn, it’s unbelievable. I’m in awe every time I see it. When you connect with the fans, whether they love you or hate you, that’s what you need and he’s getting it. He understands it.

There’s an instinct there that he feeds off and he does what he feels is the right thing to do at that moment, and if it was wrong, and somebody corrects him afterwards, he’ll learn. He’s like a sponge, and then the next time, he will apply, which I think is cool. Yes. His growth is like, I didn’t see this coming so fast.”

Rey Mysterio’s next title defence appears to have been set as he has been called out by Logan Paul following Paul’s recent boxing victory.
