Logan Paul Recalls True Story Behind Rey Mysterio Save: “I Almost Killed Him”

Logan Paul Recalls True Story Behind Rey Mysterio Save:

Logan Paul has revealed that all is not what it seemed in regards to a spot that took place in his recent match with Rey Mysterio.

A spot in the match that went viral on social media saw Mysterio attempt a springboard moonsault off the ropes. Paul would catch the Hall of Famer at the last second, preventing Mysterio from spiking his head into the mat. Many have praised Paul for catching Mysterio at the last second and preventing a disaster from taking place. However, according to Paul, he was also at fault at Crown Jewel.

Speaking on his Impaulsive podcast, the new United States Champion recalled the spot and admitted that he was out of position to receive the moonsault and Mysterio did not propel himself far enough:

“I’m going to come clean because I’ve seen all these positive headlines. ‘Logan saves Rey Mysterio.’ The Mexican community is going crazy, they’re praising me, saying I’m sort of hero. I’m like, ‘Dang, I’m getting recognized for something cool? I’ll take it.’ Then, I looked at the clip, upon assessing my performance, while I think I did save Rey Mysterio. I think I also almost killed Rey Mysterio.

I think I was too far back for the move, and I think he didn’t clear enough ground for the move. That’s what happened. I was too far back, he didn’t clear enough ground, we both made a mistake. I had to catch him, I had to catch him. I wasn’t going to not catch him. Truthfully, while I like the headlines and I like getting gassed up, I was just doing my job. I’ll take the praise.

Paul concluded by referencing that his knees are not 100% and was at risk of injury by diving forward for the catch:

“The tough part is when I caught him, I was in like a spider-knee position. I have compromised knees, so maybe they could have snapped.”

In a cruel twist of irony, it was Mysterio who had knee troubles going into the match and required medical help a couple of weeks later. Following months of working through an injury, Rey Mysterio recently underwent successful surgery on his right knee and will be out for the rest of 2023. The United States Championship loss to Paul was his final match before the operation.
