Was There Ever A Possibility Of CM Punk Signing With NJPW?

Rocky Romero revealed whether or not CM Punk was ever in talks to join NJPW.

After CM Punk was terminated from AEW back in September, speculation about his future in wrestling ran rampant. IMPACT Wrestling reportedly made an offer to Punk, and even NWA President Billy Corgan asked Punk to come and “have some fun.”

In the end, Punk made a shocking return to WWE at Survivor Series on November 25th, putting all questions about his future to rest.

Speaking in a new interview with WrestlingNews.co, NJPW star Rocky Romero spoke about CM Punk’s return to WWE, saying he isn’t surprised the star opted to go where he could make the most money and satisfy fans who clamored for his return for nearly a decade.

“I’m not surprised because obviously it’s pretty money making him showing up and the WWE likes to make money and he is obviously someone who’s polarizing and controversial and he’s got a ton of fans who have been chanting his name for years and years and years waiting for him to come back. So I mean it all kind of makes sense to me, especially with the new regime involved in making the decisions and he’s got a great relationship I heard with UFC, it kind of all makes sense in the end.”

“There Was Never Anything Official” – Rocky Romero On Talks Between CM Punk & NJPW

Continuing, Romero confirmed that there were never any official talks between CM Punk and NJPW, and any speculation about him working there was purely conjecture.

“The discussions with New Japan, there was nothing ever official. It was just simply a question one time of, ‘How would you feel if CM Punk was to join New Japan’, and I thought it was a great idea because it’d be great business and you know, obviously put New Japan on a whole ‘nother level.”

During a previous suspension from AEW back in February, CM Punk was in attendance at NJPW Battle in the Valley and got to witness Mercedes Mone winning the IWGP Women’s Championship.
