Kenny Omega In Extreme Pain At Recent AEW Tapings; “It Could Have Been Horrendous”

Kenny Omega In Extreme Pain At Recent AEW Tapings; Potentially Horrendous Situation If Unchecked

Kenny Omega could have been in a much worse condition if he left his illness unchecked.

In an unfortunate update on December 15th, Kenny Omega was seen lying in a hospital bed and informed fans that he would be out of action indefinitely. It was later confirmed that Omega was hospitalised due to suffering from diverticulitis.

According to multiple reports, Omega had been dealing with the pain for a number of days but did not seek further attention until after the Dynamite taping on December 13th.

In an update by Dave Meltzer, Omega was under the assumption that he was suffering from a hernia once again and chose to work through it, including a match with Etan Page during a recent taping of AEW Collision. It is further stated that if the former AEW Champion went to the hospital any later it could have been “horrendous”:

I did not hear if he had surgery yet on it but he was rushed to the hospital Friday.

He had been in a lot of pain and he thought what happened was – you probably all remember, is that he had the hernia that was really, really bad which caused him that long, long period off.

He had been hurting really, really bad and he had presumed it was a hernia. He had bloating which he thought he may have messed up on his diet somehow and eaten something wrong. But he just kept training on it, working on it, did the match with Ethan Page.

He was hurting really bad on Wednesday when he did the promo with Jericho. By that point it was really bad so he went to the hospital and found out he had diverticulitis. It was a really bad situation in the sense of if he had not gone in another day or so, it could have been horrendous.

The report has also been corroborated by Fightful Select, who adds that Omega did not believe that he would be appearing on camera during the Winter is Coming taping, but would go on to take part in a promo segment that also featured partner Chris Jericho and AEW Tag Team Champions Big Bill and Ricky Starks. Fightful also adds that Omega was hospitalised under doctor’s orders following the diverticulitis diagnosis.

AEW Plans Change Due To Kenny Omega Injury

Understandably, any creative plans for Omega in the foreseeable future have since been shelved. Fightful Select notes that Omega was tentatively scheduled to compete on the December 20th episode of Dynamite, but this has been cancelled. During Omega’s last appearance on Dynamite, he and Jericho set up a match where they would challenge Ricky Starks and Big Bill for the Tag Team Championships at the upcoming Worlds End pay-per-view on December 30th. While there has yet to be an official announcement from AEW on the match, Omega is not expected to be involved.

It is also noted that there is no timetable of return at this time for Omega.

Inside The Ropes would like to wish Kenny Omega a full and speedy recovery.
