AEW Star Kenny Omega Out Of Action Indefinitely; Diagnosed With Illness

Kenny Omega in AEW

Kenny Omega shockingly announced on social media that he won’t be returning to AEW action any time soon.

In recent weeks, Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho have been on a quest to make a name for themselves in the AEW tag team division as the Golden Jets. On the December 13th episode of Dynamite, the two came face to face with current champions Ricky Starks and Big Bill in a promo segment that hasn’t been well-received by fans. Omega mistakenly referred to the team as the Winnipeg Jets during the promo, and Jericho’s insults toward the champions fell flat in front of the audience.

During the segment, Omega and Jericho issued an official challenge for the AEW Tag Team Championships, and Bill and Starks accepted. The match was made official for the Worlds End pay-per-view on December 30th. AEW announced the match on social media less than 24 hours ago.

However, Kenny Omega took to social media on December 15th with a blockbuster announcement that changes the course of the tag team division. According to Omega, he’s been dealing with injuries for quite some time and he’s no longer able to push past the pain. He says there is no timetable for his return, writing:

“I can’t really sugar coat this. I’m out indefinitely. I tried to keep pushing past the pain for as long as I could until it became too much. Luckily doctors caught me when they did. I’ll be here so in the mean time, please enjoy wrestling!”

Kenny Omega had previously stated that he would retire should his injury issues continue in AEW.

In an update, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reports that the star was diagnosed with diverticulitis after being ill throughout the week. Sapp writes:

“We’re told Kenny had been ill throughout the last week, even ahead of his match with Ethan Page. He still did the match and the promos, and sought medical attention after, where he was hospitalized and diagnosed with diverticulitis. Get well soon to Kenny.”

In a further update, it has since been reported that Kenny Omega’s situation could have been a lot worse if he had gone to the hospital any later.

When Did Kenny Omega Last Wrestle In AEW?

Kenny Omega’s most recent bout before announcing his hiatus took place on the December 9th episode of AEW Collision. On that occasion, he defeated fellow Canadian Ethan Page in front of a Montreal crowd.

Ethan Page recently explained his request to join Ring of Honor as he wanted to wrestle more often, having had very sporadic appearances on AEW television.
