AEW Dynamite featured three Continental Classic matches including Jon Moxley facing Mark Briscoe in the main event.

This episode took place at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago. The announcers were Excalibur, Tony Schiavone and Taz.

The announcers pushed the Continental Classic since there were three tournament matches on this show. As announced earlier on Wednesday, the two leagues look like this.

BLUE LEAGUE:Bryan Danielson, Eddie Kingston, Andrade El Idolo, Claudio Castagnoli, Brody King and Daniel Garcia

GOLD LEAGUE: Jon Moxley, Rush, Mark Briscoe, Swerve Strickland, Jay White and Jay Lethal

The rules for the tournament are below.

* 20-minute time-limit
* Three points for a win
* One point for a draw
* Everyone is banned from ringside

Match #1: Swerve Strickland defeated Jay Lethal by pinfall in a Continental Classic Gold League match. Swerve won with the Swerve Stomp.

MJF (Maxwell Jacob Friedman) and Adam Cole did an in-ring promo talking about MJF’s AEW World Title reign and how they are still the ROH Tag Team Champions. MJF issued a threat to The Devil, who then appeared on screen briefly and then it went away. Samoa Joe interrupted the promo to talk about AEW granting him an AEW World Title match. MJF wanted the match right now, but Joe said MJF was hurt and he wanted to beat MJF at 100%, so Joe suggested the Worlds End PPV. They eventually agreed. Joe also said he would protect MJF until Worlds End to make sure MJF is healthy going into their match.

The graphic was shown to make it official: MJF will defend the AEW World Title against Samoa Joe at Worlds End on December 30th.

Match #2: Orange Cassidy, Hook & Katsuyori Shibata defeated Jake Hager, Angelo Parker & Matt Menard by submission. Hook made Parker tap out to the Red Rum move.

Christian Cage did an in-ring promo with Luchasaurus and Nick Wayne. Christian renamed Luchasaurus as Killswitch (the name of Christian’s finisher in years past) while he said it would be “The Prodigy” Nick Wayne moving forward. Nick’s mom Shayna Wayne interrupted, so Christian insulted her for not giving Nick a good life and said that he was Nick’s father. Luchasaurus stood in front of Christian defiantly, so Christian shoved him and threatened to take off his mask. Luchasaurus bumped into Shayna to knock her down. Christian wanted Luchasaurus to do a Conchairto to Shayna, but Adam Copeland made the save. Copeland hit multiple Spears and an Impaler DDT on Wayne. Copeland gave Wayne a Conchairto while Shayna was in the ring. Christian avoided getting hit by Copeland during the sequence.

Match #3: Jay White defeated Rush by pinfall in a Continental Classic Gold League match. White hit a low blow kick that the referee never saw followed by the Bladerunner for the win.

Toni Storm was presented with the AEW Women’s Championship as if she won an award at a ceremony. They had Renee Paquette and RJ City as the award presenters. Storm did a brief speech while it was in black and white rather than full colour.

Match #4: Sky Blue defeated Anna Jay and Ruby Soho by pinfall in a triple threat match. Blue pinned Jay with a spinning slam off the shoulders. Soho was unable to make the save due to flirting with Jay’s friend Angelo Parker on the floor.

Wardlow was interviewed by Renee Paquette, who asked what is he waiting for in regard to going after MJF? Wardlow said he’ll be the downfall of The Devil when he’s ready. AR Fox walked up to try to offer advice, so Wardlow said he didn’t need advice and headbutted Fox.

Match #5:Jon Moxley defeated Mark Briscoe by pinfall in a Continental Classic Gold League match. Moxley hit Death Rider once and Briscoe kicked out at two. Moxley followed up with The Stomp. Moxley hit another Death Rider for the pinfall win.

The show ended at 10:07 p.m. ET so it was seven minutes past the top of the hour.

Continental Classic Continues On AEW Collision

It is rare for AEW to not promote something for the following week’s episode of Dynamite. However, the company chose to not advertise anything for Dynamite next week during the show. They did promote two matches for AEW Collision on Saturday:

* Continental Classic Blue League: Eddie Kingston vs. Brody King

* Continental Classic Blue League: Daniel Garcia vs. Claudio Castagnoli

That’s all for this week.

In recent news, Marq Quen was spotted backstage at a recent AEW show.
