Montez Ford has insisted that WWE has never had a plan to split up The Street Profits.
Ford and tag-team partner Angelo Dawkins first debuted in NXT in March 2016, coming up short against the ‘Hype Bros’ duo of Matt Cardona and Mojo Rawley.
It wasn’t until 2017 that the pair made a real impact, however, after being repackaged as ‘The Street Profits’ and re-debuting in August of that year following the screening of a number of vignettes.
The pair lifted the NXT Tag Team Championship at NXT TakeOver: XXV on 1st June 2019, defeating The Undisputed Era, The Forgotten Sons and Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch.
The popular duo were drafted to Raw in 2019 and took the main roster by storm, lifting both the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championships. However many believe that Montez Ford could be the breakout star of the team and that a breakup could be pending.
Ford, who is married to former WWE Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair, dismissed this suggestion on a recent appearance the Getting Over podcast, insisting that a split has never been on the cards:
“For us, it’s never been anything that has been pitched or anything like that, but there were a couple of instances where we felt like that were teasing it a little bit.
We had some backstage segments where it was, ‘Oh, the draft could split you guys’ or MVP would come up and say, ‘You should be doing this or accepting that.’
There have been instances where people have tried to come in and add their two cents and make it go a certain way, but it never led that way. Very fortunate that it didn’t.”
What is next in WWE for The Street Profits?
WWE has heavily teased a relaunch of The Hurt Business in recent weeks, with leader Bobby Lashley making his return on the 14th July edition of WWE SmackDown to meet with the Street Profits. The ‘All-Mighty‘ was later seen leaving the arena in a long limousine with the tag team stars.
