Stone Cold Steve Austin retired from in-ring competition following WrestleMania 19 in 2003, and many (including the legend himself) believed he would be one of the very few wrestlers not to return to the squared circle after retirement.
However, ahead of WrestleMania 38 in Dallas, the Texas Rattlesnake was announced to take part in a special edition of the Kevin Owens Show, and it was heavily speculated that the appearance could turn into a full-fledged match.
Sure enough, Austin confronted Owens and agreed to a match, defeating KO in a No Holds Barred Match. The next night, after Vince McMahon returned to competition against Pat McAfee, Austin confronted his decades-old rivalry with the WWE Chairman and delivered what it considered one of the worst stunners in company history.
With WrestleMania 39 on the horizon in Los Angeles, CA, Austin has been photographed looking in phenomenal shape, leading many fans to wonder if his match against Owens wouldn’t be the last time he stepped inside the squared circle.
WWE Offered Steve Austin “Enormous” Money To Compete At WrestleMania 39 Against Roman Reigns
According to a new report from Fightful Select, WWE has indeed pitched a blockbuster match to Steve Austin ahead of the Los Angeles event. The report states that there was an internal pitch for Austin to face none other than the Tribal Chief himself, Roman Reigns. Austin’s camp was approached with the idea of the match, and it was reportedly for “enormous” money.
A previous report indicated that Austin had been offered a match over the summer, and this match was said to be not as financially appealing as the match with Reigns. Sources within WWE weren’t able to confirm to Fightful Select whether or not this latest big money offer was accepted, but according to another source, there was also a pitch for Austin to face another big name in the company. This name was not revealed in the report.
If the Austin vs. Reigns match does go through, it could have a major effect on the title matches that were planned as of December. According to a Wrestlingnews.co report, night one of the extravaganza would see either Seth Rollins or Cody Rhodes fight for the WWE Championship, while night two would see Reigns defend his Universal Championship against an opponent yet to be determined.
