Tony Khan Responds To Criticism Over Booking Of AEW’s Women’s Division

Tony Khan at press conference

Tony Khan has been asked to address a common AEW issue after All In.

With the Wembley Stadium card heralded as a success by Khan himself and the thousands in attendance, the topic of how the promotion books its women’s division has come into question once again.

With a four-hour main card and a one-hour pre-show, there was only one women’s match throughout the five hours of action, which was the Women’s title match won by Saraya. On top of this, the four-way match for the Women’s Championship was the shortest match on the main card, having a total bell-to-bell time of just under nine minutes.

Approaching four years of weekly television, fans remain critical of the fact that only one women’s match takes place each week on Dynamite. Infamously, a fan’s sign demanding the division be booked better was once seen front and centre on camera.

Khan was asked about the noticeable absence while quizzed in the post-show press conference. Khan stated that he got as many of the top stars as he could get on the Wembley Stadium show and that it was difficult to fit in more matches:

“I think the pacing of the show tonight was probably the best we’ve ever had. The best show we’ve ever done. So I think adding any more would have been challenging. Also we have so many stars across both the men’s and women’s division – great wrestlers…..I tried to pace it perfectly and I think we did pretty great.”

Tony Khan Discusses Women’s Matches At AEW All Out

TBS Champion Kris Statlander did not compete at Wembley but instead will defend the title the following Sunday at the All Out pay-per-view. Khan also stated in the press scrum that they need to assess the condition of Saraya before deciding when the next match for the Women’s Champion will be.

Saraya would also appear as one of the guests at the press conference and has a big name in mind for a future challenger. The new champion has made it clear that when Mercedes Mone is cleared to compete, she would love to compete against her old rival.
