Saraya Wins AEW Women’s World Title

Saraya makes entrance at AEW Full Gear 2022

Six years after thinking her career is over, Saraya is the AEW Women’s World Champion.

After suffering a second serious neck injury in 2017, Saraya was told she’d never wrestle again. In fact, a few months later she confirmed her retirement live on SmackDown.

However, after numerous setbacks and a switch to AEW, the British star has achieved what many thought unthinkable. She’s become World Champion one more time.

Saraya entered Wembley Stadium to the sound of Queen’s “We Will Rock You” flanked by her family, and left the Women’s Championship. The action was fast and furious, with Toni Storm and Britt Baker also looking to dethrone champion Hikaru Shida.

Despite being members of The Outcasts, Storm and Saraya came to blows after the Australian star accidentally punched Saraya’s mother at ringside. Ruby Soho ran in to try and calm the tensions but only got smashed in the face by Storm for her troubles.

The match reached a frantic conclusion with Baker trapping Shida in the LockJaw, but missing Saraya getting Storm in the face with spray paint. She followed up on the blinded Storm with a Knight Cap to score a popular win in front of more than 80,000 British fans.

Saraya Wants To Push AEW Women’s Division Into The Main Event

Speaking ahead of All In, Saraya discussed her plans for the women’s division following heavy criticism. The British star said she hopes the division expands meaning she can compete in Ladder and Cage Matches.

“People have to realize AEW has only been in the business for four years. It’s very much a baby. We have so much time to let things grow and evolve. I’m sure going down the line there will be more situations for the women, more new faces that will come in. I’ll be there with open arms. I personally have never gotten to do stipulated matches in WWE. I want to do cage matches and ladder matches”

Interestingly, following Saraya’s win, Excalibur on commentary made reference to Mercedes Mone watching in the stands.

In recent news, Saraya sent a message to Mercedes Mone in a post-show media scrum for All In.
