Jim Cornette Reacts To Brock Lesnar’s Role In 2023 WWE Royal Rumble

Brock Lesnar

Jim Cornette has had his say on the role that former WWE Champion Brock Lesnar played in the men’s 2023 Royal Rumble match.

Brock Lesnar had a mixed Royal Rumble in 2022, to say the least. Roman Reigns cost Lesnar his WWE Championship when he speared him during his title defence against Bobby Lashley early in the night. But not one to dwell on defeats, The Beast Incarnate roared back into action as the 30th entrant in the men’s Rumble match, winning the whole bout, and booking his place against Reigns at WrestleMania 38.

At the 2023 Royal Rumble Brock Lesnar was hellbent on going back-to-back in Rumble matches as only Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, and Stone Cold Steve Austin previously have. Lesnar entered the men’s Rumble match at number 12 and immediately showed his dominance by eliminating Santos Escobar, Angelo Dawkins, and Chad Gable.

Did WWE Find The Best Use For Brock Lesnar?

Unfortunately for Brock Lesnar, his luck soon ran out and less than two and a half minutes after entering the match, Bobby Lashley had eliminated him. That sent Lesnar on a tear of destruction on the outside as he attacked a referee and caused general mayhem.

Speaking on his Experience podcast, Jim Cornette gave his thoughts on Brock Lesnar’s role at the Rumble and explained why it was perfect for him:

“Number 12 was Brock Lesnar and here we go. And I figured that they were as I said, three people earlier they were starting to line up some cannon fodder for a star. And that spot in the Royal Rumble goes back to Pat Patterson, you know, first laying the first ones out, you always try to have, Diesel had a moment, one year and whatever.”

“So Brock comes in and Germans everybody and he dumps Escobar, then dumps Dawkins, after that he dumps Gable, and he suplexes Drew and Sheamus and comes face to face with Gunther, and just as they start going at it, Lashley’s music hit, he’s number 13 or wherever we were at.”

“Lashley comes in and spears Brock and Drew and Sheamus and slams Gunther and Brock goes for the F5 and Lashley drops out of it and clotheslines Brock over the top and eliminates him and that got a pop, and also that’s the best use of Brock.”

“In the Royal Rumble, he can’t be in there doing the spot with all the other normal guys where he sits on his ass in a corner and you know acts like he’s kind of selling and keeps an eye on what everybody else is doing or disappears for a while or gets beat down by some schlub for a minute. You can’t do that with Brock Lesnar, it kills him.”

“So he came in, destroyed a bunch of sh*t, or destroyed a bunch of people, or dumped a bunch of people. And then, you know got lucky clothesline by Lashley. This is obviously continuing. And then he stays around ringside, tearing the desk up and shoving manhandling referees and the next guy coming out is Baron Von Corbin and he meets him at ringside, Brock goes and gives him an F-5 on the floor and then f*cking wanders around and stalks off. That was perfect for Brock.”
