CM Punk’s Dig At Adam Page Was An “Attempt At Comedy”

CM Punk on the mic

Dave Meltzer has revealed that CM Punk’s promo on Adam Page after AEW Collision was an attempt at comedy.

On the latest episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio podcast, Dave Meltzer offered insights into Punk’s controversial promo on Page following Collision. According to Meltzer, Punk’s intention was to deliver a comedic segment that unfortunately misfired.

Meltzer explained that Punk’s promo was meant to be tongue-in-cheek, with the aim of generating laughs and entertaining the audience. However, the delivery and content of the promo did not resonate as intended, resulting in a negative response from the wrestling community. Meltzer said:

So the story that I heard, the story defending him [Punk], was that he was doing an attempt at a comedy line and it backfired. He realised the minute that he did it that it had backfired, that was the line.

The promo in question took place after the August 12th episode of Collision, where CM Punk addressed Adam Page directly, making comments that were perceived by many as disrespectful. Meltzer’s analysis sheds light on Punk’s intentions, suggesting that the promo was sparked because Punk reacted to a fan’s sign that he saw in the crowd.

I watched the things and it certainly seemed like he got mad at a sign in the crowd and that was his reaction to it. The line about the heart and soul, well that was a reference about the press release of the signing of The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega and Adam Page. One of them said they were the heart and soul of the company and he reacted negatively to that.

In light of the backlash, CM Punk took the initiative to reach out and apologize to Adam Page via text message, as confirmed by Bryan Alvarez on the Wrestling Observer Radio podcast. As of now, it remains to be seen how Page will respond to Punk’s apology and whether this will bring an end to their ongoing conflict.

Did CM Punk Get Adam Page Barred From AEW Collision Venue?

It was reported in the Wrestling Observer Daily Update that Adam Page was told not to go to the Greensboro Coliseum after he’d been told to go there to shoot a backstage segment for Dynamite. It has been speculated that CM Punk was the person who had gotten him barred from the building, although this has not been confirmed.

Recently it has been reported that CM Punk has “veto power” over who can appear at AEW Collision events.
