The New Day Make History At WWE NXT Deadline

The New Day NXT

The New Day duo of Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods will find themselves in the record books in WWE once again just a few weeks after the team’s longest tag team title reign in WE history was overtaken by The Usos.

Woods and Kingston left it late to be a part of the NXT Deadline event but it turned out to be better late than never for the experienced team as they challenged Pretty Deadly for their NXT Tag Team Championship. The New Day proved to be too much for Elton Prince and Kit Wilson as they left the event as the new NXT Tag Team Champions.

The New Day are the third triple crown tag team champions in WWE history

With that win, it puts The New Day in rarefied air in WWE’s tag team division as they have become only the third team in company history to win all of the NXT, Raw, and SmackDown Tag Team Championships, and the first to complete the triple crown by winning the NXT title last.

The Revival was the first team to complete the tag team triple crown, winning the NXT Tag Team Championship back in October 2015 and capturing the Raw and SmackDown titles at different times in 2019. The Street Profits also achieved the feat and are so far the team to have done so in the quickest time with their three title wins coming within sixteen months.

The New Day first captured the Raw Tag Team Championship when it was simply known as the WWE Tag Team Championship at Extreme Rules in April 2015 from Cesaro and Tyson Kidd. In total, the team that also included Big E has held that title four times.

The group has captured the SmackDown Tag Team Championship on seven different occasions with the first of those wins coming back in July 2017.

It remains to be seen how long The New Day will continue to be a part of WWE’s developmental brand but with several new tag teams for them to face in NXT, their reign as champions could be another long one.

In recent news, The New Day returned to WWE on the August 7th episode of Raw.
